After each chair piece has been sanded to 600 on the lathe, I pick up a handful of shavings and push them onto the piece while it's spinning at max RPM. An instant sheen or glow appears, I enjoy this final touch before I pull it from the centers.

You bet it does Lew, I see the shine appear as soon as I apply the bunch of shavings with pressure to the turning. I did however learn the hard way that you need to keep the shavings moving, some of the shavings could burn a streak into the wood if you sit in one place.

    I usually load the palm of my hand with the shavings, then apply the pressure from the underside of the turning (bed side). For me I can get a pretty good load of shavings to work with, when I use this method.
