July 17Jul 17 Popular Post comment_378870 Congratulations, Steven. Should work out nicely, just think: no more trying to move that stuff you make up steps. Have you lined up help for the move? Moving at our age, (well ,maybe my age) is not a picnic. Report
July 20Jul 20 Author Popular Post comment_378991 Bought a stack of these things..Says they are 27 gal. size...Goal for today? There is an old 5 drawer Chest of Drawers I made, long ago...to store a LOT of tools....been down in a damp shop for over 10 years...so, it needs to be gone through, tools sorted out into either Keepers ( for the New Shop) or..Stuff for a LARGE Yard Sale to be held, once we get everything moved and sorted through...Household and shop...These are full, the Chest of Drawers is empty ( and will be left behind)...Will haul the totes upstairs via a long rope....as in "2...6...HEAVE!" Zip ties to keep the lids shut. There are 3 Cabinets in the Dungeon Shop....each will be emptied out, and hauled to the new shop...and hung up on the Wall Studs...The 3 Benches? emptied and slid upstairs on their "Tops"...same rope trick...Getting the keys in a few days. and can start as soon as they arrive....Everything in this old house with get moved into the Garage, sorted through, items we NEED in the house will get placed there..Goal is to have this old place empty and the Key turned over by 31 AUG 2026.... Can't beat the price, at least in my neck of the woods Home Depot puts them on sale for about 10 bucks each for the large ones, and I've been filling them up step by step with my shop stuff and heavy items from the garage. They are pretty nice, and stackable! Report
July 25Jul 25 Author Popular Post comment_379158 Back hurts...legs have gone on STRIKE...3 loads today...thats ..Pack up a bunch of stuff, load those heavy totes into the car, drive the 10 miles to the new place, unload the totes...drive back to the old place and repeat..Watch this space..Note the totes back at the wall? those 4 were just one load....have since added 2 more totes, NOW I'll have a place to stash all them cases I have built for tools...Maybe add drawers here? Might be a decent spot the set up the work bench, again...Been using the 6' Stair tread as a ramp to unload these..And this was the 1st load, this morning..Electrical?Glass fuses. Arrow points to the "Hot Lead Romex"The Tool Cabinet with all the tools and saws hanging from it? Has been emptied out, cleaned out, doors removed to make it easier to transport...ALL those tools?Well,,, planes? These all came from inside that Cabinet...but wait, there is more..Just keep adding layers until the tote is filled..Plus one more on top of this one...repeat as needed..There are 5 full totes here...plus a 6th one after these were done did...rope makes them easier to pull along. We first tried to fill them up IN the shop...did not work out too well...so, the next ones were filled out here...meant I went downstairs to the shop, grab a handful of items, climb back upstairs and out here...repeat until each tote is full. have 5 more totes to fill up..tomorrow...Tablesaw gets torn down ( off it's stand) same with the Bandsaw and Drill press. Not sure about the 2nd bandsaw or the Router table, yet..Plane til needs emptied out, and removed from the old shop. Then the Mitreboxes and their saws...We have 1 week to get everything out of this house, so I can turn off the Key on the 31st of July... Report

July 31Jul 31 Author Popular Post comment_379502 Key to the "old House" was turned in at 1700 hrs, today...Will need most of August to get everything sorted out and put away....once we figure out which box had which items in it...Right now, computer is sitting up on a small table....as the Computer desk is currently "buried" in the Garage...1/3 Lemonade + 1/3 Tonic Water + 1/3 Irish Gin (84 proof!).....and ICE COLD....yeah, I am that beat up and sore... August 1Aug 1 Popular Post comment_379507 Once you pass a certain age (for me it was 60) moving becomes a dreaded adventure. Glad you got things settlled in, and if you get everything sorted out in a month, you'll be 36 months ahead of my record. Report
August 1Aug 1 comment_379519 We have a walk in attic and we're replacing the bat insulation with spray foam next month, I'm dreading moving everything down 9 steps to the second floor so they have room to work.🫣 Edited August 1Aug 1 by DuckSoup Report
August 7Aug 7 Author Popular Post comment_379737 We be getting there .....SLOWLY..Today?Thought I could use these to hang a few cabinets on the wall...did not work out very well...brackets bent down....had to pre-set a drill/driver and a screw, place that inside the cabinet and lift it up again ( after it had fallen back down ON me...) Hold it in place with one hand, drive one screw with the other...Each black mark is where a screw went into a stud. Next? This was full, of all the wrong stuff...so..It is now the Saw Til, again. Still need to find and place the 3 drawers in the Plane Til...but..A few arrivals have taken their places....there are 2 Stanley No. 31 jointer planes up on top..2 jacks lower down....and a Stanley No. 7 on the bottom shelf....Busy corner? Will get this sorted out as I go...Braces?Just hanging around, at the moment...Lights?3 out of the 4 I need to hang up, and plug in...like the sign?Stay tuned... I have used a 2x4 or other scrap screwed in as a temporary support ledge - really works as an extra hand to set the item on when having to attach something unwieldy. Also having all the screws started is helpful for me as I seem to drop the screw or miss the mark otherwise (especially when trying to rush when dealing with holding up something heavy). Report
