January 1Jan 1 Popular Post Well, it looks like we made it through another year! Thanks to all who tune in to this little weekly turning post. Hope everyone has a safe and healthy 2026! Our Patriot Turners- We have had several posts from our turners this past week. @Gerald posted a bowl, in "What's Off..." ! He turned this for and AAW event- The embellishments are absolutely magnificent! Check out this post for more images! Another finished turning was also posted. This one is an interpretation of Trent Bosch's "Vessel of Illusion" More can be found here- @RustyFN turned another cherry box. He did the most amazing laser work as part of the embellishments! See his post for more images- Rusty also updated us on a newly acquired gouge. He reshaped the tip for a more efficient turning. Rusty shows the results in this post! A couple of weeks ago, @Rusty S showed us some really neat Christmas ornaments the contained Celtic Knots. Rusty's species orientation really caught my eye. Rusty was so kind as to show us just how he created these gorgeous knots. Thanks for the process pictures!!! What's Coming Up- In this case, what's NOT happening. This is from Lyle Jamison's email- Here's his web site- https://lylejamieson.com/ For The Newbies- Tim Yoder is uploading informative videos to the TikTok social media platform. Theses are generally short and aimed at newer turners. Opinions on TikTok are mixed and not everyone has an account. We will try to post some here to provide another source of turning knowledge. Will that affect what you use as a finish for your turnings? Some pretty cool ideas on creating a lidded box from Woodsmith. This one is just slightly larger than the last and has a little different overall shape. Roughed out- Hollowed Profiles The remaining collar is for an attempt to add a more organic opening. It did not work on the previous version. Maybe this time I can approximate Trent's piece but not sure about the squiggly carved lines. Safe turning
