Popular Post steven newman Posted November 15 Author Popular Post Report Posted November 15 Ok....this will be a LONG post....had 25 photos to edit down... First off...needed to rip a few slats, While trying to keep them square... had to use the push stick as well... Another saw was used, too.. Then over to the bandsaw to remove a bit of waste.. A bit of sanding off the rough stuff... First one was the Pattern..soon had all the feet done Had to go back upstairs and retrieve 4 clamps.. Spread some glue.. The 4th clamp had an issue.. Was missing a jaw...Visegrips to help out..let these sit a day... Stay tuned.. aaronc, DuckSoup, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 2 others 5 Quote
Popular Post steven newman Posted November 15 Author Popular Post Report Posted November 15 Next up? Hinge install..sorted through the supply box.. Some were too big, and some were too small, managed to dig out a pair that was just right.. Was trying to decide which will be the hinge side of the box...Tools? And these.. I also made use of this thing.. You drive a pin down, while the handle centers things up. instant pilot hole... Set the lid down onto the hinges, layout where to chop the mortise at on the lid.. And install...used a couple props, though..thin one under the lid to stop it rocking, and.. A couple of these under the box..to match up with the lid... So..pending the feet getting installed, and me finding a chain for the lid...how about a PIP? Hinge view.. A view of an ends..and.. Added a latch... Stay tuned... aaronc, DuckSoup, Gerald and 2 others 4 1 Quote
steven newman Posted November 16 Author Report Posted November 16 Ran a block plane around a few edges.. Sanded this to 320 grit...drilled a few counter-sunk holes..( no glue) Installed 4 feet...( had to final sand them BEFORE they were installed.) Then, shake a can pop the lid...Brush & Rag... Brush on the stain, then wipe off the remains.. Sitting down on it's own 4 feet... Just the outside of the box...might line the inside in Green Felt? ( takes forever for the smell to leave the insides of a box..if I stain it..) letting this dry a day or 3... Stay tuned... lew, Fred W. Hargis Jr, Grandpadave52 and 1 other 2 2 Quote

Popular Post steven newman Posted November 19 Author Popular Post Report Posted November 19 Tomorrow, I need to buy items to add a coat or two of finish to this box.... Right now? It is sitting with the lid opened up.. To let the smelly thing air out a bunch.... Shopping List: Because... No Varnish in the shop No Shellac in the shop No Brushes in the shop to apply either of the above No Green Felt in the shop No small chain to connect the lid to the box.. No handles for the ends of the box... I do have a label to install...and spray glue for the felt... Tomorrow being Pay Day.....will be out and about most of the day.. Stay tuned.. lew, Grandpadave52, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 2 others 5 Quote
steven newman Posted November 20 Author Report Posted November 20 Shopping trips yesterday....so...this morning after Breakfast.... I bought 4 sheets of Peel & Stick Green Felt....used a pair of scissors to cut to sizes needed...had to go back and "iron" out the wrinkle... $0.99 a sheet, at Hobby Lobby Handles.. Came from Menard's The other items from Menard's? A Quart can of "Warm Gloss Poly", a handful of 2" brushes...and this thing..turned out to be a bit too huge for this box.. Wipe things down, opened the can, and got out a brush... All outside surfaces now have their 1st coat of Varnish....will let this sit a spell...then rub down and see about IF it needs a second coat... Stay tuned aaronc, lew and Grandpadave52 1 1 1 Quote
steven newman Posted November 21 Author Report Posted November 21 Ok..Brass Chain...came in a 72" long "bundle" had to snip a bit off.. That should do the trick...? gave the box a good rub down and wipe off...Got out the can of Varnish and a can opener.. aka "Church Key" the proper way to open a paint can. Brushed on coat #2....handles came in handy... Will let this sit right here... That be a reflection of the No. 6c plane sitting beside it... Will see how this turns out, later... Stay tuned..
