Ok....this will be a LONG post....had 25 photos to edit down...

First off...needed to rip a few slats,

First one was the Pattern..soon had all the feet done

Had to go back upstairs and retrieve 4 clamps..

Was missing a jaw...Visegrips to help out..let these sit a day...

Some were too big, and some were too small, managed to dig out a pair that was just right..

You drive a pin down, while the handle centers things up. instant pilot hole...

Set the lid down onto the hinges,layout where to chop the mortise at on the lid..

And install...used a couple props, though..thin one under the lid to stop it rocking, and..

So..pending the feet getting installed, and me finding a chain for the lid...how about a PIP?   Hinge view..

Ran a block plane around a few edges..

Sanded this to 320 grit...drilled a few counter-sunk holes..( no glue)

Installed 4 feet...( had to final sand them BEFORE they were installed.) 

Then, shake a can pop the lid...Brush & Rag...

Brush on the stain, then wipe off the remains..

Just the outside of the box...might line the inside in Green Felt?   ( takes forever for the smell to leave the insides of a box..if I stain it..)

letting this dry a day or 3...

Tomorrow, I need to buy items to add a coat or two of finish to this box....

 

Right now?  It is sitting with the lid opened up..

To let the smelly thing air out a bunch....

 

Shopping List:

Because...

No Varnish in the shop

No Shellac in the shop

No Brushes in the shop to apply either of the above

No Green Felt in the shop

No small chain to connect the lid to the box..

No handles for the ends of the box...

 

I do have a label to install...and spray glue for the felt...

Tomorrow being Pay Day.....will be out and about most of the day..

Shopping trips yesterday....so...this morning after Breakfast....

I bought 4 sheets of Peel & Stick Green Felt....used a pair of scissors to cut to sizes needed...had to go back and "iron" out the wrinkle...

$0.99 a sheet, at Hobby Lobby

A Quart can of "Warm Gloss Poly", a handful of 2" brushes...and this thing..turned out to be a bit too huge for this box..

Wipe things down, opened the can, and got out a brush...

All outside surfaces now have their 1st coat of Varnish....will let this sit a spell...then rub down and see about IF it needs a second coat...

Ok..Brass Chain...came in a 72" long "bundle"  had to snip a bit off..

gave the box a good rub down and wipe off...Got out the can of Varnish and a can opener..

Brushed on coat #2....handles came in handy...
