October 25, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Once the glue was dry on the skirting it was time to bevel it. I started on the underside of the skirting that, combined with the lid skirting, forms the dust seal. Short sides first....
October 25, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Next step will be attaching the lid, then I will spare you the shot of me with a dust mask on running an ROS inside and out. Then it will be first poly coat on the top and carcass. After finish and cure I still need to build the till(s) and install railing for them to run on. I will have close to 6 inches left in the box after installing the saw till. I want to leave an inch for a piece of leather to hold the lid in position when opened. That will leave around 5 inches depth. A can either do one large tray, or a 3 inch deep tray and a 1.75-2 inch deep tray. Have not decided as yet. Thanks for looking.
October 25, 20241 yr Popular Post Great touch with the bevels Mike. Adds just another detail for period authentic. Enjoying following along. Thanks for all the pictures.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Time to install the lid, so chop it out first.... Then pare away what I don't want.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post I use a transfer punch to mark the hole locations. ....and drill them out. I fitted them to the box, then they will be removed and installed on the lid itself.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Marking the location of the hinges on the edge of the lid so I can locate them properly. After that I mark the location for the hinges on the inner part of the lid, where they go. I cu the mortise on the box itself to the depth of the hinges when they were closed, so I didn't need a mortise on the underside of the lid. So I drilled them and installed them on the lid.
October 30, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Couple those are switched around. Sorry. Aaand, I attached it to the chest. Thanks for looking. I'm getting closer.

October 30, 20241 yr Popular Post Looks very much like the "Anarchist's Tool Chest" a la Chris Schwarz. I've seen a few of them as he's not that far from me.

Yep, same thing. The ATC is an English Tool Chest, IMO and from my research. Swarz just came up with another name, with the goal of encouraging others to get into woodworking with hand tools by building an "essential kit", and keeping costs lower. The chest is not the "anarchist" part; the idea that you don't need more than a few essential tools to build almost any kind of furniture is. It also has the effect of drawing a lot of younger people into woodworking because of that word Anarchist, IMO. Whatever it takes to get people interested in hand tool woodworking has got my 100% endorsement. https://store.popularwoodworking.com/products/make-a-traditional-english-tool-chest-with-christopher-schwarz-video-download Edited October 30, 20241 yr by Handfoolery
