Featured Topic Just in time for Fathers Day, @KevTN is in the spirit and in the rabbit hole of his CNC Featured Image @PSMWoodcrafts is having fun with his CNC, if you remember he is a newbie on his CNC and discovering it's capabilities, looks like he is having a blast, and testing the waters and the waters look warm from here. Featured Video With all that is going on in the ol Morris home, it's pretty hectic lately. And there are some earthly things that can settle my mind, a good cup of coffee, sitting in quiet in the backyard at dusk, reading a good book, and discovering a good piece of media, I dunno, this video was just really relaxing to watch and a joy. It's about 22 minutes long and even my wife and son turned their attention to it, it's a window into a chair makers day in the Appalachia's, what a joy to watch

June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post I did my first long "cook" of the year yesterday. Smoked a pork butt on the smoker.....really came out well, maybe one of the better ones I've done. Today it's some yard work, I'm actually done with the mowing for a while it seems, no rain....no growth (I don't water the lawn, either) . May get rain next week. Today and tomorrow I'm replanting one flower bed and putting the electric fence around the corn; otherwise I'll be piddling in the shop.
June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post I started in on my first international order. I am making a set of bean bag boards for a friend that lives in Italy.
June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post Yesterday, our son came over and ran tongue and groove on 42 cedar fence boards. They'll become the back, sides and seat of a welded up frame for bench/seat with flower boxes on each end. He got about half done before I made it to the shop. So, the shop vac didn't get attached to the router table fence. What a pile of sawdust! He managed to get most of it cleaned up. There's still fine dust clinging to exposed surfaces that I'll have to get off, today. Then it's play time. Exploring laser software capabilities. So, no more sawdust, today.
June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post Picked a few things...cleaned most of them up...making shavings with 2 of them...about it for the shop... Not much going on, today...that "Monday Thing"...

June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post Good morning all, happy Monday. Lots of yard and garden work; it's actually something we enjoy. Also got a trailer full of old Apple wood from a local orchard that's been seasoned for 2 years. as fire season is going to start soon here, it's stacked for the fall. Replaced the control board on my CNC and I have to give a 10 Star Rating to Fox Alien support. I'm going to start keeping it covered with a towel and throw in a moisture grabber come fall. I suspect it was spring air changes in an old shop that did it in. Now that it's fixed did a test for someone that wants to add images to his campground site tags. I like to use old wood from my warehouse for a mockup before using the good stuff. Have a great week everyone.
June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post @PSMWoodcrafts Nice job! Looks like you are having fun! @John Morris Thank you for the shout out. LOL about an hour after posting this the wife asked if I can redo the fathers day gift to a different picture. Of course I said yes. I did it on the back of the original and she can choose which one she likes then spend Friday and Saturday finishing it up. I personally like the first one but it will be up to the wife which on is saved and which on will be resurfaced. I also started 2 new commissioned pieces. Started two other commissioned jobs. So when I get home late Thursday I'll do my work Friday and get to work.
June 10, 20242 yr Popular Post I made a dump run on Saturday and as I went by the pallet factory I saw a new pile that was being thrown out, so on the way back I stopped in to see if there were any nice hardwood ones. As I was loading 4 when the owner drove up, we started talking about last week's 'Town Meeting' and how it got a bit out of hand. Then we got to pallets, 'What are you looking for Kevin?' "I'm just picking up a few hardwoods", I replied 'I've got so many REALLY nice ones down in the yard, you can have them. Come down and I'll show you where they are. 'How many do you want, you can use my truck' The stacks of pallets were 20' tall, 'I'll take 10" 'I'll give you the top of the stack', I'll put them on my truck, I'm going right by your house. Can you read the date on them? 03/26/24 Brand new, never used, beautiful wood. It's good to live in small towns I'm still working on breaking them down.
June 11, 20242 yr Popular Post Monday was a sawdust free day learning the ins and outs of laser software until it got too hot in the shop. This old body can't hack the heat beyond about 10:30. No shop time today. It's our 53rd wedding anniversary. Our sons gave us a gift card to a fancy resturant. We'll do a midday meal. The resturant is about a 45 minute drive. By the time we get there, eat and get home for a nap, most of the day will be gone.

June 11, 20242 yr Popular Post A big congrats to you and Phyl, Gene on the anniversary. Enjoy your meal! I'm not sure I've ever seen you say it was a little too hot down there though.

At least, we don't have to shovel the heat. Edited June 11, 20242 yr by Gene Howe
