March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Friday again folks! Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I've been rather busy helping work on Bruce's JRV's (Junk Rescue Vehicles) getting them ready for the "Spring Curb Shopping Season" which starts a month early this year this coming Monday. I don't have a clue where he expects to put anything, everywhere is bulging at the seams. I also tried getting a little bit done on the Larkin sewing desk, which SWMBO has informed me she now wants it for what else, a "Sewing Desk". So, I guess that sends the computer desk build into another direction. Not to fear though, I've came up with another plan involving rack mount components salvaged from one of Bruce's "Curb Shopping" adventures. More on that later. So, until then What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post It's been a great week here in nearly all aspects Son James has been here, weather has been just plain super. Although he was working, having meetings and studying, his evenings were free so we got to work together on a Bailey chair for their dog, grill out, cook out, some bird watching and last night he & I went to Macon - supper at a brew pub and then to a Joe Bonamassa concert - which was a great show. Today I will help him pack up , we are all having super with a long time friend of his and then visiting. Saturday morning we all trek to Atlanta to have lunch with our daughter and her beau and his family and then James will head on back to Mecca Ohio. We will likely spend the balance of Saturday afternoon visiting before heading home. I think I will do a tune up on the Duster Sunday and list it for sale.... Sunday begins a cool down after these last several days with a low of 32* forecast for Tuesday. 32* would be helpful, much lower than that... not so much. Edited March 15, 20242 yr by Cal
March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Still looking for a car for our son, we going out this morning on a promising prospect, wish us luck! Then I am hoping this weekend I can make a shaker box or two.
March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post @Cal, you can actually fit all that into one weekend! I'm not so sure I should retire now!
March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Out early for me today. Grandsons out of school for some kind of teacher work day, so I'm supervising them once they wake up. Church men's monthly breakfast tomorrow morning. Youngest grand-daughter will be home late tomorrow to start her spring break. She has a presentation to do first at Purdue tomorrow from her J-term internship. Something to do with soybean genetics; above my pay grade. Several responsibilities Sunday at church. I did get a little "play time" in the garage this week to sort, clean and refurb some tools. Still hoping all is well with @Fred W. Hargis Jr and Marie. More here...

Good Luck! 18 minutes ago, John Morris said: I'm not so sure I should retire now! ... You'd miss out on all of those "Now that you're retired, you've got time to do this for us projects" that come out of the woodworks. DAMHIKT Stepson wants to put new hub bearings on their Equinox tomorrow. This time I'll be showing him where the tools are and letting him have at it.

March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Phyls relatives...the Sudkamp clan from IL, TX and Kal.. left last week. This weekend the Howe clan is due to arrive from WY. There's 10 bodies in that bunch. They'll be bunked in VRBOs, though. We'll be providing some grub, though. All the males are car nuts and, there's a big annual car show nearby tomorrow. It's the Marana founders day celebration. Live music, food trucks and hot air balloons. There's usually a sky diving exhibition, too. Should be a fun day. We'll gather back at the homestead later for more visiting time and some pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. The length of their stay is TBD but, long enough to take in some of Tucson's sights and activities, I'd imagine. We haven't all been together again since our last trip to WY several years ago. It'll be great to see them all again.
March 15, 20242 yr Popular Post Cut up the last of the cherry logs and resealed the end grain. So much wind shake damage will only get smaller turnings.

March 16, 20242 yr Popular Post Welp, we finally landed on a decent set of wheels for our son. We've been looking for over a month now and we finally got a good solid ride, from good solid honest private seller folks! No games, nothing hidden, I offered and he accepted 6500 bucks for this beautifully maintained 2005 Pony 4.0 5 speed stick. The first image is our son and his new car pulled into our garage, we just gave him the keys, and his smiles says it all, a 19 year old boy and his horse, it don't get more American than that He loves Mustangs, we were looking at later model NIssans and Hundaiy's etc, he has said earlier his dream was a Mustang, and I just kind of blew him off, the typical dad speech, "son, it aint practical, you need good solid transportation to and from work, and that's all, no more no less". Then I was thinking, what the heck, the boy want's a Mustang, let's do it! After all, you're only 19 once right? So while he was at work today, me and mama drove an hour away and checked in on this Mustang. The entire experience was perfect with the owner, good folks, good home, honest people, great family, just an over all good feeling that he told me anything I needed to know about this car, and he maintained this car impeccably. So, without further adieu, our son and his horse, and let me tell ya all, that lil 4.0, has some guts! Sounds pretty good too. Oh ya, by the way, he's paying for the car, a year ago we saved up 1500 bucks for him to help him buy a car, he's in it for 5 grand, and he works his butt off in construction, very proud of him! The rest of these images are from the sellers ad online. The car looks new, like it's been under wrap for 19 years, and it has only 76,000 miles on it. Thanks all for sharing in our excitement.
March 16, 20242 yr Popular Post Had the rain today but not much else. My ASV (a step above a Bipap) is acting up and tried to take it in but the dealer has moved. Went on errands with my son and finally shop time to finish my first plate off the JaHo: Ornamental turning jig. Tomorrow is woodturners meeting so going to bed a little earlier , ;like now. Thanks Gramps, our son and my wife were losing patience with me because I turned down so many cars that just didn't sit well with me, and they thought they were perfectly fine, but my eyes grabbed onto minor things that indicated poor maintenance, dishonesty, crazy looking paperwork, and nothing aligned just right for me till we met this fellow and his car, and it all felt perfect. Now my family knows, Dad's do have a magical sixth and sometimes seventh sense!

Thanks a lot Cal! Exactly on the patience! You'll see my reply I just made to Gramps on that exact subject. I think our son, and my wife too, learned some what a little patience can bring if you just don't push it and rush it. Thanks again Cal

March 16, 20242 yr Popular Post Nice ride John! Well the wife wants me to purchase and hang shades in daughter’s bedroom. Do some other running around, and then go look at some ‘land.’ Not that we haven’t been looking for five years. I’ll be happy when we do. Single story and I get my own shop! Then I also need to do the second charcuterie board for the sis in law. I am going to be in Columbus OH this week. I have heard good things about that Wood Werks up there. Anyone have any insights?
March 16, 20242 yr Popular Post spent several pleasant hours doing my Fed tax return.....my annual "math test", if i get it right, i get to remain free!
