Since I missed last Mondays topic in order to say Happy New Year, well, tiss now I say I hope all of you are having a grand start to our New Year, here's to a happy, healthy, and productive time in the wood-shop and may your travels be smooth! Thank you for being here and thank you for your support of our woodworking community. Featured Topic Early Delta 860 Tilt-Table saw by @Larry Buskirk is gaining some steam again! Featured Gallery Album The top shelf carvings of @Smallpatch. Literally, his carvings are on the top shelf! Featured Video It's a long watch, about an hour long, it's one of the latest Crafts in American PBS releases, and happens to be one of my all time favorite programs to watch. Actually there are really only two craft related programs I watch, Roy Underhill re-runs on PBS and Crafts in America. There is woodworking in this episode, the very first artist is building miniature doll house pieces completely by hand, and done almost the exact same way you'd build full scale furnishings. And if you decide to watch the entire video, you'll not be disappointed. If you are not up to the entire video, perhaps you'll enjoy the first 15 minutes of miniature furniture building. Enjoy!
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post Starting feeling punky Saturday night late. Managed to survive Sunday school and worship services but came home immediately following. Spent equal time between the bathroom, my chair, chilling to the point my teeth chattered underneath a heated blanket and lap throw. I've survived the last 36 hours on water, some Gatorade, Pepto tablets and two toasted waffles. I had the worse headache I've had in years. I think I sweat out whatever bug got me during the night. I don't feel great, but much better after a shower this AM. Made the trek to my daughter's early to watch the boys again today. Currently nursing a Gatorade, watching the American Pickers all the time Channel and enjoying some semblance of a sunrise although doesn't look like the sun will last. Week ahead, TBD. Sounds like we're in for some real winter weather.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post I've got a bunch going on this week. Rain coming in this evening and looks to be bringing some serious threat of high winds and some chance of tornadoes tomorrow morning. My normal routine for this is to tie off the porch swings and rockers and move the truck and car down the driveway to get away from the tall pines on the neighbor's side of the fence. Take down the bigger wind chimes & for this storm I may take the added step of securing the deck furniture. Other stuff this week, my "Kia" mirror went through the sandblaster and I've started painting. I need a couple colors I do not have so when I or the Mrs. goes into town that's on the shopping list. I'll be ready to assemble said mirror after painting. Doc appt on Wednesday, follow up to the back shot I got in December. I seem to be doing ok so pretty happy about that. Thursday is a dental appt. - a routine cleaning. I need to get my butt in gear and get started on a pair of cabinets for daughter, just been too cold in the shop to motivate me on that... but she's calling and providing some motivation Some type of chocolate cake I think upon delivery I've also been getting somewhat sidetracked watching the birds since our son was down at Christmas taking pictures. Truth be told, on a cold January day I've enjoyed sitting in the sun room with a cup o joe or hot tea looking out the window at all the activity... a few more quality pics taken a day or two before Christmas... A red bellied woodpecker on the feeder See that glint in the bird's eye? Son says when the bird is not moving his lens will actually focus on the bird's eye. For sport I enlarged the pic on my phone to zero in on the eye That is a reflection of the house! A large shrub on the left, sunroom window, brick chimney and additional shrubs. He was set up maybe 25-30 feet from the feeder for this pic, in the sunroom with the window open and screen removed. The Georgia state bird, a brown thrasher on the bird bath And a yellow rump warbler Out in the woods the camellias are in bloom. A couple of my favorite Japonicas here The pic doesn't do this one above proper justice. The colors are so vibrant and almost like velvet with a deep red tinged by a purple violet. This flower measures about 4-5". This next one is just a perfectly formed flower. A bit smaller at 3-4" across And the last two pics, not my favorite, but a nice flower none the less. Walking around the shrub looking for the "right" flower to photo, this one had a bee inside. James got the shot as the bee took off. And now you know what a bee's rear end in flight looks like! I hope all these pics will post up...

January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post Good weekend here, except it wasn't woodworking. We did manage to get the tree down and the ornaments packed, a very painful process. Physically painful for Marie I'm sure, but mentally painful for me. There is (apparently) a specific order in which the ornaments are removed form the tree and put away. Anyway, also got my taxes figured out and a couple of other odds and ends. This week looks like I'll get some shop time since the weather is supposed to be not very nice most of the week.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post @Cal...love the pictures. We've got a resident, Red Bellied Woodpecker. He's the only bird I've seen intimidate the Bluejays. He usually chatters at me when I'm refilling his favorite suet feeder.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post Was supposed to onboard new tech this morning. It's 1015, still not here. Not a good start. But hey, I have plenty of other stuff to do. Back to work.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post @Grandpadave52 I found a "fifth" to be the perfect prescription for those ailments, in my younger days. Now I rely on TheraFlu. @Cal WOW! those are some awesome pictures! Just working on finishing up a platter. Couple more applications of wipe on poly and finish off the bottom. Did get to use the snowblower before the snow turned to sleet. Rain and flood watch tomorrow.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post might be helping someone later this week do a small repair on a chair. got dropped, and part of the top/back is missing. hard part is matching the stain. if i can figure that out, then cutting a clean line and patching in a scrap is the easy part.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post Had a good weekend . Gat the outside lights packed in the closet. Got some help to set up new mics and mixer for club video and PA. Finished The A/V chest except handle and carry strap hooks. Yesterday after church son and I went down to his place and got the insulators on the posts to install electric fence. Did not know it would take so long to install 12 of those clips (clip is a light word for snapping those on T posts). @Grandpadave52 I agree a bug but take it easy for a day or two. @Cal My wife has taken to feeding the birds with suet, seeds and hummingbird food not to mention the little fountain. Guess who has to fill all this stuff. We have never had more than 3 hummers but at lease those find us. Woodpecker, jays, cardinals, dove , tufted titmouse, black cap chickadee to name a few would have to dig out pics. Those are some fine pics your sone made.
January 8, 20242 yr Popular Post Boss had a few errands to run...TODAY. And I had some shopping to do...Back home now...

January 9, 20242 yr Popular Post Shopping trip..photos? Something to hang brace drills up with, in the Tool Cabinet... Instead of this wooden "thing" that is falling down.... Once I get enough of these...will replace that wood strip with these...might be able to get a couple more to fit? Since I ran out of spring clamps during the last Project.. So..I'm thinking this just MIGHT be enough for now.. Maybe? Sharpening supplies? Plus these to "cans" Was about out of 3in1 Oil...and was out of WD40... Tomorrow, I'll try to get 2 new tires for the Chevy....and MIGHT sneak off on a Rust Hunt? We'll see...
January 9, 20242 yr Popular Post It started a light rain last night around 9PM and continued overnight. It has been rumbling and roaring with thunder since about 6AM. The news reports a lot of scattered power outages in the area, but we are doing ok right now. I know the rain has picked up some over the past hour while I've been up, but it's still too dark to see but I can hear it on the deck overhang. The worst is forecast now to start in or about the 10 AM hour. I got all the porch furniture roped down and tied off and car & truck moved. I've done about all I can do in preparation. I did run an errand yesterday so I picked up the paint I needed and completed that part of the mirror. Assembly after lunch today barring unforeseen circumstances. Watched the Michigan-Washington game last night, congrats to Michigan players and fans.
January 9, 20242 yr 2 tires have been bought for the Chevy...then a drive down to Harmony, OH. for the annual January Rust Hunt...film @ 2300 hrs... LOTS of rain and wind, today... Saw a LOT of tools that someone else thought were Gold Plated...and a lot that I already had in the shop....was going after items I did NOT have already...walked around so much...Cramps in both feet while I was trying to drive....
