Life's tough...

Tougher if you're stupid. A quote from the Duke.

It seems that I have some of those 3 letter afflictions. The most significant being AGE. followed close behind is ADD. I've found that multiple projects going at the same time doesn't work for me. I'm too easily distracted and, it seems that one or all of the projects suffer. One at a time, to completion, isn't efficient but, it's easier to stay on track. Do you ever forget what you're doing in the middle of a job. I do. Drives my wife nuts.

  • I generally don't have a problem focusing on a single...hey look, a squirrel!  Now where's my coffee?

  • I like to think I am still inquisitive and therefore easily distracted.  Considering most of the transgressions only involve me, I am fine with it.

  • Welcome, my brothers, to my world.  It turns out I'm autistic / on spectrum / neurodiverse (pick one, I guess).  I was told at age 18 to NOT become an engineer because my aptitude tests showed a lack

I don't know about forgetting what I'm doing... look - a squirrel!!

Where was I Gene, oh yeah... not so much forgetting but I sure do get sidetracked at times.  I think it's worse when what I am doing has me confused or undecided about how I might tackle the task at hand.  Since I very seldom have actual plans and often not much more than a rough sketch each part of the project takes a bit of thinking through - that's when I am subject to wandering off in other directions.

But yeah, squirrels are distracting...

“Did you ever forget what you are doing"

Not only yes but as I age (80 now) it becomes more prevalent. The one thing I try very hard to maintain is my safety. If in doubt don’t turn it on and if it is running……….turn it off. The part that really bugs me most, Is where that little Demond hid what I’m looking for. If I replace a bad screw diver with a red handle with one with a green handle………….I’ll look for the red handle for 5 minutes.:D

At our age, only a figure of speech, we have seen all the tips that exist. Now what was that "new" tip Gene had?:throbbinghead:

When I was working on software for mainframe computers, little known to many people was that your program could be "interrupted" at any time, swapped out for some other program to use the processor and memory, and later swapped back in right where it was with existing memory and instruction.  So if you are working on a project, just stop at any time, start back on another and come back right where you left off.

I alphabetize most steps in a project because I'm no good at math.

At the tender age of 63, I am finding out that all this stuff is starting to happen (?) to me. It’s only been the last 2-3 years that I’ve ever started to feel old. When I say feel old, I mean realizing that I can NOT any longer do the things I used to do, as easily as I could. I’m also not accepting it too well. I wish I had some funny way of looking at it, but right now it’s seeming like an unsolvable puzzle. At least now I see I’m not the only one with the issues. You should see all the extra gear I keep in the back of the car, so I can still change my own flat tires.
