July 29, 20232 yr Popular Post Just curious does everyone else save project idea photos like I do? And do you ever get around to making them? Yes I have made some of them. Sometime spent with my project photos might be time well spent. Hoping to stimulate interest and response!!
July 29, 20232 yr Popular Post Most are in my head. I have been contemplating one of those passive amplifiers. My idea is to make it look like one of those old time gramophones.
July 29, 20232 yr Popular Post I have saved several gigs of "I wanna try that" pictures. And one of these years I'll actually get around to trying one or two!
July 30, 20232 yr Popular Post Not a turner, but yes I have too many to count pictures as well as countless free project plans. All filed in the "round2it" folder. Then more pictures, ideas and plans for jigs, fixtures, benches, carts, shop accessories etc. Just waiting on Groucho to deliver a case of Geritol to get started.
July 30, 20232 yr Popular Post I've a folder of sign ideas, and then a whole pinterest folder of all sorts of subfolders of ideas.

July 30, 20232 yr Popular Post I do the same Gerald, from woodworking to blacksmithing to flint lock rifle making to powder horn making to leather "possibles" bag making to book binding to well, a few more disciplines all of which I plan on being very good at and having a section in my shop for each discipline when I retire (dreams). But reality is, I'll stick with woodworking and perhaps dabble a tad in blacksmithing and I'd love to make some Flintlock rifles, all of the above listed, I have a ton of photos like you saved to my hard drive, and a collection of books on each subject Life is so short, sometimes I wish we could go to 150 healthy productive years, just so I can dabble in all the wonderful trades man has come up with since we've discovered fire and picked up that first rock and used it as a hammer. For now, I'll just enjoy the work of those who do it very well, like your work Gerald, I admire your turnings greatly, and that'll do for now. Heck, I gotta get back in the shop, that's my first step these days. Those are some beautiful project images Gerald, you'll get to a few of them!

July 30, 20232 yr Popular Post I sometimes get the inspiration right here on TPW. I have always admired @Steve Krumanaker for his birdhouse ornaments and the little birds he makes for them. I recently got one in the mail from him and was was amazed at the intricacy of the bird and decided I needed to give it a try. I got it done but his is bird is something else. My hat is off to Steve. I did about five birds and quit even though I made close to thirty ornaments.
July 30, 20232 yr Author Popular Post @John MorrisHey that 5 projects at once are already scattered around my shop in various states of completion or incompletion.

Dan, I am incredibly flattered by this and I think your version is great. Birds come in all shapes and sizes for sure. To answer the original question in the OP. yes, I often snap pictures or draw a sketch when I see something I want to try. FWIW, the little birds were inspired by an Alan Stratton youtube video. He did a much larger version but I knew immediately what I wanted to do with the idea.
July 31, 20232 yr Popular Post @Steve Krumanaker The bird's head put it over the top for me. Specifically the use laminated wood to create the details of it especially for something so small.

I am much the same, including sketch-up files. I know that I have more ideas than I have years. Danl

August 10, 20232 yr Popular Post A friend of mine keeps telling me I need a sketch pad. When I get an idea to sketch it down so I don’t forget. I really need to start doing that.
