So...sorted through the Left-overs, again...

JunePrepgoodstuffmaybe.JPG.dcb6ed84b3257a39a18bf990ec8b97d6.JPG

have these to use up (or burn) plus a plank..

JunePrep1x6x5.JPG.8dfcf885d1da9eab1cb8d68dd478ebbd.JPG

That had a split on the end..

JunePrepsplitend.JPG.e5f5a25a63931fcc17795b9ce4a24f08.JPG

So..got the tablesaw out..chopped the plank down to lengths I can better us....which still left..

BoxforJuneoffwiththebad.JPG.0220735ac7e33ac8a9dc0227d0adcda5.JPG

Problem to deal with...set up the rip fence...to just skim along the split...then ran most of the other wide parts through..

BoxforJuneroughcutsstart-up.JPG.320f8e41d01501c671b67f9c6122381f.JPG

Kept some of the better looking cut-offs..

BoxforJunesecondboxparts.JPG.465e1dfc8e995b3ce2491ff5dd521575.JPG

And some of the strips..

BoxforJunelidparts.JPG.31c9f41e0dd31376f57adcbb2c8a64e7.JPG

Which will make a collar for the Raised panel lid..

BoxforJunelidpartslaidout.JPG.a7df09e7a0593aff5927ace6a134378b.JPG

The strip on top?   Is not quite as wide as the other four...but, I do have a use for it..

BoxforJuneraisedpanellid...JPG.792196a3ea038fe59670cf94455b9394.JPG

Need to joint a few edges, and glue this up into a panel for the lid..

Box?

BoxforJune4sidesofabox.JPG.00bdfdd66947df7c98234fd518aeceae.JPG

Will see how the lid turns out, the size this to match the collar...

Corner Joints?   Will be a form of Dovetails..

DovetailClassDay4dryfit4.JPG.1903688d0f2c0c958f3ad4bdd3fcea2a.JPG

That when properly fitted...

DovetailClassDay4endgrainshowing.JPG.96b28632db094abd7a5dd42a09fbe54f.JPG

Yeah, yeah...I could TRY the mitered version...last time, that didn't end well....these seem to be better....even Chris Schwarz uses them....

Stay tuned...

All aboard. Next stop Dungeon Junction. Arrival time mid June unless we run short on steam. Here's my nickel, albeit wooden. Hope to get a window seat.

Task to be completed....

Trim the lid parts to rough size...

JuneProjectlidworktrimmeddown.JPG.d3eab5dac032204383048125e837a45f.JPG

Try to line up a grain match...panel is a bit too thick for a lid.....Tablesaw to cut a deep kerf around the 2 wide parts...center was just narrow enough to allow one pass.....wide parts were then finished up with a handsaw...

JuneProjectlidworkresaw.JPG.8b500fab1ef7376041d6678293af4ddb.JPG

Then planed flat...

JuneProjectLidworkflattenandJoint.JPG.0ea7d347e5ffdb409e9e5557594378d8.JPG

Same plane also jointed all the edges.....then, spread a bit of glue...

JuneProjectLidworkcauls.JPG.01a4a32764dc4b53c766405df26037a8.JPG

Vise lending a helping hand...and acting as a caul...double cauls at the top...check for any gaps...

JuneProjectLidworknogaps.JPG.2ebf8dc53d3cbb98183e71f1f2197a15.JPG

I also trimmed the Box sides and the collar parts to rough length..and squared up the ends...

JuneProjectLidworktrimmedboxparts.JPG.07fdd7b226f9706572a36045ddf1aad5.JPG

Letting the panel stay in the clamps...may return later today...

Wish I had your scrap pile.  Getting good hardwoods is either an online order or a 80 mile (40 there and back) trip.  Some common local hardwoods are available but for a shrink wrapped high markup price.

How to do half blind mitered dovetails was a request from a student many years back taking my CNC furniture class. I originally told the kid It would be impossible to do those using a CNC, but after sleeping on it (my usual path to clever solutions) I did come up with a way.  image.png.205468f6e9ad1b5d3da8845ccfd1c7a4.pngTook mounting the boards at 45 degrees from vertical, and some brain sucking contemplation to draw up the toolpaths, but the student was happy with the results.   The photo above is just a sample I did to show the students. He used this joint on the corner edges of his walnut desk.

Spent over an hour Sunday...cleaning up the lid, once it was out of the clamps.....oh, it was indeed square,,, except it was also twisted....worked on the top and bottom of the lid, so it would lay flat on the bench...

ASundayintheshoplidsdone.JPG.563730de453125ec80d14abdde3a43d3.JPG

Left it here, for now....needed to check the 4 sides of the box, to see how they all matched to size of the lid..

ASundayintheshopmatchinggrain.JPG.d00611d7a5c3948efc0ea15fc39b31bf.JPG

Of course, they all needed a trim....was trying to match up the grain patterns, too...

ASundayintheshoptrimmedforlength.JPG.fd113187daf39a08dc57466ef49be393.JPG

Finally got all 4 cut for length....and even jointed one edge...will do the other edge later...

By this time, I was soaked clear through..and the Get-up & Go....had got up and went...figured this will do, for a Sunday...

All four corners are done.

WEDS.Corner4dryfitsquared.JPG.b495e7a0cc13426d5a3a0624834d14d6.JPG

So..today was a "Groovy Day"...need to joint a few boards, first..

AGroovyDayneedsjointed...JPG.e94abc9c8d8165850a5e579456cdede3.JPG

They were a bit rough along the edges...so..

AGroovyDayJointed.JPG.68388d4594751111ca787e6ce4621e2a.JPG

And made sure all 4 sides matched in width..

Makes the grooves easier to align...Jig #1

Was a bit too "squirrelly"   also, wanted to test a different plane..

AGroovyDayTestdry.JPG.2d8e6aad17a75ebdbe87a93a590b6a08.JPG

Iron wasn't quite sharp enough..was a bit too bit for this work, and..

AGroovyDayNoDepthstop.JPG.dc6261c5070749fb4198cb5b2ef3109b.JPG

NO depth stop...back to "old reliable"

AGroovyDayNoddlemaking.JPG.a83a4857628c74afc1bd92c2353a927f.JPG

Tends to "bloom" when going good...Candle wax along the groove helps out..

AGroovyDaymakingamess.JPG.270ee5d979aaf47384d99d2e5a4f335b.JPG

And..this is only half of the Krunchies, today...

Needed a bigger jig for the long sides, so..

AGroovyDayJig2.JPG.4b3e40ad20fdb0d8b4cae5a4414a86c0.JPG

Check to see how the grooves line up..

AGroovyDaycheckingalignment.JPG.660213544b3403ee9fb4b27cc044aa7e.JPG

Why it is important to joint all the bottom edges the same...Test out the plywood bottom..

AGroovyDayPlywoodbottompanelfits.JPG.d187bb60f0a9530eb3ea594a8f27e918.JPG

See IF the lid still fits..

AGroovyDayLidstillfits.JPG.ad439dd87a900d9fea74317b02ca6d78.JPG

Might as well glue the box up?

Checking for square...

AGroovyDaycheckingforsquare.JPG.a7ae28338e5156a0f145aa4812edd714.JPG

Adjust as needed..Let this sit a day or two..time for a Tonic & Gin..?

Thinking of building some trays for this, so..

Most of today's shop time was taken up by removing the old Washing Machine...buying NEW hoses for this..

A tad smaller...less things to go wrong...had to re-hang a Power Strip..

Goes to the shop fan, and the drill press..and the new washer...it does have a breaker..and, there is a GFCI outlet that the strip is plugged into

Red does stand for Hot Water, right...?

Later today..I'll dig some small wood screws out of a tray..

And install hinges and a latch.   The screwdriver is a Phillips......Brass "tube" is an automatic center punch...will be using 1/16" drill bit for the pilot holes...
