Had a good weekend mostly. Friday night woodturning club displayed at a wildlife dinner. I won a cooking lesson from a grill company and our president won a Mauser 6.5. Not bad for free tickets.
Saturday I went with son to plant the free county agent trees at his place. No I did not do any digging.
Sunday overslept and was really plastered all morning. Afternoon actually went to shop to cut markers for the trees. That kinda took the wind outa my sails.
Getting ready to go to PT now

This is a real big week for me. Prepping for the Super Bowl party Marie and I will have on Sunday. We're not celebrating the stupid game, we celebrating the end of the #$%(*&^#@! football season!

  • if it warms up a bit, was the car after lunch.  take a bottle of glue down to the shop.  organize classified documents by topic, wall paper the bathroom (these two might be related).

Thought I saw my B&D Workmate on a previous post.   Checked my garage and mine was right where I left it.  Phew!

Made 2 steps forward and one step back .  Cutting the stretcher ends to 8 degrees and the correct finish length went fine,  Cutting the top and bottom of the 4x4 cedar legs went fine until the 3rd one. For some reason it ended up 2" short. Should have been 32+7/16 tip to tip, but ended up 30+7/16 tip to tip.  Double checked before cutting the 4th one and it came out the correct length.   Glued the cutoff end back onto the 3rd leg. Hoping end grain to end grain sticks well enough between 3.5" x 3.5" cedar surfaces.  When the glue is dry I'll recut the 3rd leg.

Need to cut tenons on the end of the 4 stretchers.  I'll use my CNC for that job. Then the legs will need mortises very precisely located for those tenons.   Also a job for my CNC.

Once the joinery is done and the legs/stretchers dry assembled the base should stand up on it's own.  We'll see.

Not surprising. Might carry it one week then not again for six months. Check Big R or RP whatever it's called today. Automotive section. Also any O'Reillys,, Advance Auto or AutoZone. You want blue or green; most red compounds require heat to break loose.

Kicks your Mountain Dew habit in the butt, doesn't it? Anyway, best of luck with the stress test, hope it goes well.

Well, let's see football is almost over, baseball hasn't started yet.  Some basketball -- so what are Sunday afternoon TV wasted on -- rodeo, tag football, golf, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Went to play bridge mid-day.  Crunch week for the theater set build -- Menard's run tonight, shop time 3 evenings and all day Friday, move in and set up Saturday and Sunday, every evening next week doing onsite assembly and final touches.   Performances Friday and Saturday evening and Saturday and Sunday matinee.   Then tear-down and reload back to the shop.   I won't be doing much else for the next two weeks.

But I did get some parts prepped and working on a 45 degree miter cross cut sled to make a bunch of boxes (roughly 5x10x4 inches) for Children's Hospital patients to decorate while they're in care there.

I need to quit for today.  Spent the last 30 minutes CNC cutting tenons on the end of two stretchers for the tool bench I'm building.  I decided to use the cheap (but not inexpensive) 12mm plywood I picked up at Menards for the stretchers.   Suspect this is imported and fairly toxic stuff as the dust and chips set my nose running and sneezing while it cut.  Shut down and vacuumed up most of it before getting out of that room.   Back to normal now that I'm out of there.

Two more stretchers need to have their tenons cut on the ends. The CNC is all jigged up so putting them in takes a minute at most before starting the toolpaths.  I'm going to see if I can find my official dust mask/filter before starting up tomorrow.

Leg # 3 has been patched up and recut to proper length.  I'll clamp each leg to the 4th axis rail, one at a time, so I can cut the mortises on them hopefully tomorrow.  The stretcher will remain vertical relative to the 8 degree slanted legs, so the mortise row has to be at 8 degrees relative to the length of the leg.

Well when we're home it's a either an episode of Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Rawhide, Bonanza, or sometimes Cheyenne or Wells Fargo unless there's a really good western movie playing.:CowboyPistol:

Took a few minutes to locate a good pandemic mask before returning the CNC room to finish the tenons on the last two stretchers.  The mask certainly helped.  Stretchers done save for some finish on them.  Today is mainly for rigging up my CNC to hold the 4x4 legs and cutting mortises for the stretchers on two faces of each.  It'll take a left and a right toolpath. Easy to mirror vectors in Aspire (my CNC software).  Moving slowly to come up with a quick and reliable strategy to put each leg on the CNC without having to find new home coordinates on each.

A little time spent up front never fails to greatly reduce how long it takes to actually cut parts on my CNC.
