I had 24' of room between the saw and bench. The slider made it 15'". I have to move my bench out about 9". You'll need Deven more with a 12". I keep thinking it wa a 33" in depth..

Room is at a premium so that is why I am going to this style.

Don't get me wrong on these saws y'all. I don't care which one a woodworker buys. Many buy by color and name. I'm not committed  to any color or brand,

I try to look at things after brand and color..Needs and wants, that's how I judge a value...

I want a Milwaukee shop

I wasn't a Bosch shop

I want a Dewalt shop.

I want a Makita shop

Billyjack wants a  copper shop made from penny's on a dollar shop  tools

I don't need a purdy shop, I don't need purdy tools, I just need to create purdy things from it..

did you put the suction from the bottom?

From the top.  Was convenient.

You can add suction to the bottom. I added a 4" with the 1.5.

Mine is the Bosch miter glide 10". It can be set against the wall, which is handy. It can cut 11" wide. And, it'll cut a 6X6. From the table to the blade is a tad over 7". I've never needed more capacity.

No everybody here has robbed a bank and stashed it away like you.

You've got me confused Gene. Maybe my math is wrong. How can you cut a 6X6 with a 10" circular blade. I know Bosch makes great tools.

A 6x6 will fit under it and cut turning and multiple passes.

When we cut 6" material we use a saw..

It's 4" from the teeth to the mounting hub. So, you cut that deep and roll it over.  No biggie. With anything real big, I cut part way on 3 faces. But, as Billy indicated, a Skilsaw would be easier. At least you don't have to lift the work so far.

I think for the kind of money on these saw, it would be worth my time to go to where they have many brands and check out each feature and spend a lot of time trying different settings. Go home for the night , sleep on it and make a decision..

Not every purchase makes everyone happy, but that's not what's important..

True. I have had a chance to 'play' with 10 inch Bosch, 12 inch Delta (which is the exact same as a Ridgid). I would like to do the same with the Mikita when I can find one.

Is there a distinct advantage to move to a 12 inch? I have narrowed to the Bosch

I got the Bosch 12"  I was putting a new recreational Deck on  and I needed the reach.  I like it. I have a  Ridge Carbide blade on it and it's unstoppable.  The size of the blade is - - - umm - - - well - -  it's not for little stuff.   It's a little intimidating.   I expected I'd use of for segmented turning.  Haven't yet. It's a few years old.

To be fair I never had a sliding mitre saw. I had the makita chop saw.  It's just not the same thing.  Ya need a whole different  set of personal safety skills.

I have a 20+ year old Hitachi and a 15+ year old Makita, both 10".   Both are used fairly infrequently as I would normally make those cuts on a sliding crosscut jig on my table saw.  Only once did I wish for more capacity, I was cutting some PT 4x4 for a friend and it missed the last 1/8" in the corner.  I probably could have put a spacer in, but I had stops as I was making 35 of each of 3 sizes.  I ended up just flipping it over and finishing.  I have taken the Makita on site to do some carpentry work with 2x stock.

At the furniture bank we have a 12" DeWalt and at the theater shop a 10" Ridgid.  I don't think we use the capacity of the DeWalt much as we normally are just cutting 1.75" to 4" wide strips to length.

I think it depends on what you are doing with them.  I went 25 years without ever having a miter saw and only got one when  I got a job to make some compound angled picture frames from 3'x5' to 4x8' in length.

A slider with a depth stop would be useful if you don't have another way to make dados.

Kmealy the dado option is one reason I wanted to up grade as my table saw can not do dados. I want to learn some new skills.

I don’t use the dados on my table saw unless I can’t find a better way. I’ll cross cut dados on my RAS and use the slide on small jobs. I try to stay off the table saw as much as possible…

But I have my own reasons for avoiding it .
