September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Friday again folks! Here "Two Weeks From Anywhere" I've been helping the neighbor get his newest van ready for the fall "Curb Shopping" season. Went with the neighbor yesterday and showed him a "Boneyard" that he had been driving past for years without realizing it was even there. When I told him to turn here he's like "How long has this yard been here?" Was rather surprised when I told him "Oh at least 50 years." It's one of the good yards that lets you remove your own parts, and also one of the cheapest in the area. Got a rear bumper, grill, and a few other parts for his 2005 Express, we ran out of time yesterday, so he want's to go back today. So today it'll be front bumper, and hood day along with what other goodies we can find. He always finds those sandwich crashed vans, says he gets them cheaper that way. As for my Honda Pilot "Keep Out The Mice" project, I'm waiting for the piece of stainless steel 100 mesh screen to arrive before I take the dash out. So, What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Just about got all the parts of the 3 Limbert tables ready for assembly. But, today will be dedicated to shop clean up. I figure when my try squares get lost in sawdust, it's time. Yesterday, I was playing around with the Bosch electric planer that just arrived. Man, there's certainly a steep learning curve to using it. I'm still struggling at the bottom of the curve. Trying it out sure made a decent contribution to the sawdust collection. The plan is to use some 8/4 mesquite rounds as tops for the tables. Flattening and leveling them will result in another day of copius sawdust removal. We'll keep the naturally formed edges. That'll keep the some of the mess to a minimum. Meanwhile, the newly acquired scroll saw sits idle. It's covered to keep it dust free but, more to keep my mind off it. I'm really anxious to get some time with it. Edited September 9, 20223 yr by Gene Howe
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Sawbuck sawbuck sawbuck...hmmmm...a woodturners sawbuck. I need to make one. Preferably not overly complicated...quick and simple is the word. I found these plans over at Sam Angelo's (youtube wyomingwoodturner) site but they are a bit over the top of what I need. Any ideas? AW3503-2020SawbuckPlansBillGray.pdf Need to do some more organizing out in the shop and I have some green lumber that I need to rough turn. .40
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post As I finished cutting grass and sat down for a cold one my wife brings me a package. Made my day!!! THANKS @HandyDan
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Sometimes...a sawbuck comes with it's own saw.... Friday's plans? Need to finish painting some Kitchen doors... As that dark blue on the lower doors is too dark....nneds to match the top ones... and... 9 upper doors, 10 drawer fronts..done....10 lower doors to do. Also.."We have plan?" And a single plank to use with it.. Should be "fun"
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Finish the mowing today. Did manage to get all the roadsides + fence rows mowed yesterday. Normal year, couple times a month beginning in May. This has not been a normal year. Embarrassed to say only the second time this year. One final attempt to get a patch to hold on Trailblazer upper, rear transmission oil cooler line; hopefully can get it to the shop in town 12 mile away. If not, will have to be hauled. Regardless, I'm hiring this job out. Need a lift first to get poly skid pan off, then access to lines at transmission. Probably will have them change fluid & filter as well. Football game tomorrow morning assuming storms hold off. Church responsibilities Sunday. Any "free" time in between will be trying to get stuff put back where it belongs from the box or piles where it currently resides...translated clear up flat surfaces. What ever all, y'all have planned, work safe, enjoy your weekend, and remember to dunk your donuts twice before consuming.
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Gonna drag out the chain saw and do a little tree trimming, Couple of dead branches need to come down. Not big enough to for any usable turning projects. @forty_caliber the problem with Sam's buck is that you have to lift the log onto the buck. The one I have you just roll the log onto it. The down side is that it requires you to saw in a stooped over position. Made from a couple of log slabs and a few boards.

September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post @lew...thanks. First attempt with Flex tape didn't hold. Hard to clean even using brake clean, with the tight access plus difficult to wrap with second line 2" away and both secured to the inner fender well. Also the leak is at the "bell" end which engages into the union. I'm going attempt to get thoroughly clean, try a layer of Flex tape, wrap with Gorilla tape, then slip a piece of split branded hose over that secured with small screw hose clamps. Not a lot of pressure. If it was a few inches away from union end, I could cut bad piece out, splice with steel fuel line using a couple of brass ferrel unions. But my luck is never such. Just got an email, the replacement lines due to arrive today have been delayed until Tuesday. Guess FedEx had a flat tire or something?

I was the "outfeed catcher". When I was in early elementary school, my grandfather had his farm's woods logged to help pay for my grandmother's final medical bills. They logged and did some rough cutting out in the woods. They piled the slabs and we harvested them for the next few years to run in the coal furnace. The saw ran off a belt powered by our tractor. To this day, wet sawdust and mule manure are engrained in my olfactory brain. Today got the yard mowed, Saturday WW club meeting, then on to set construction -- it's getting close and we have a couple of catch-up evening shifts next week. Sunday is beekeeper's club picnic. So not too much shop time
September 9, 20223 yr Popular Post Charcuterie boards delivered, will clean the shop another day, pistol match tomorrow morning.
September 10, 20223 yr Popular Post Reasonably ugly sawbuck built onto the existing shop lumber cart. Quick wiki-up took design elements from the suggestions above. While she may not be the prettiest girl at the dance, she will get the job done. .40

September 10, 20223 yr Popular Post ole gal and i did orientation at new shooting joint, spend am, doing a little pistola target practice, for sure one does not want to be in front of her, amazing how well she shoots a .45 acp, and now decided she'll carry it as her concealed carry, be a 5 shot micro kahr from back in the day, then had lunch with some friends how joined us after orientation. came home and took the mandatory food induced nap. lol. today had a huge limb off our big monument palo verde snap off about a 5 inch dia liimb, fired up the electric chain saw and had at it, took all of half hour once the cutting began, managed to almost fill my dump trailer, thought about running to dump today, but decided may thats a week day trip. lol working on a new load for my 10mm, loaded 8 of each recipe, so will run out this week and see how i like them. sold a grizzley radial drill press i had in corner of shop, made some nice space, have to clean out one of my company trucks, as it goes on chopping block, just put a 3500 dollar tranny in it, but can't sell a broken truck. ole gal is on grandkid duty today, so i get to do MY stuff, yeehaw. happy saturday, muggly and warm, so gonna tread lightly today rj in az
September 10, 20223 yr Finished all the mowing yesterday plus a couple piddle projects. Won the football game today. 52-0. Nice to be on the other side of a blow-out. Grandson got plenty of practice for his kick-offs. He did pretty well. Running clock the entire 2nd half. Good thing too; sun came out of hiding, no breeze to be had, it was HOT. Back on the Trailblazer patch job. Got my legs up for a bit. Hoping eye-lids stay up too.
September 11, 20223 yr Popular Post Spent today finishing up some details on the new bench. Added some rubberized cork. Spent the rest of the day cleaning the shop and laying out and marking all the cut list stuff for the patio furniture the wife wants. Once I had the shop clean enough to move the big ladder around, climbed up and replaced the air filters for the HVAC. That is going to have to be done on the regular I can see Other than that, I started making a list of the cabinets and furniture I am going to need in the shop and jacked up the workbench on its casters and wheeled it into what I think is going to be it’s permanent position. Been a busy day and I am beat. Tomorrow starts the new project though so I am excited about that. I suspect that this patio furniture is going to be a touch overbuilt but that is probably a good thing in the grand scheme of things.
September 11, 20223 yr Ugh. Mowed the yard a couple days ago and Saturday my wife spots a bald hornet's nest that must have come within a foot of with my head. About the size of a basketball. Now I need to decide what do do with it.
September 11, 20223 yr Popular Post had planned on working in shop some today, but late yesterday spent some time in reloading shack ,and had a big issue with my 10mm reloader set up, to the point consideration of introducing a large hammer came up. so i opted to go have a barley pop, dangle feet in pool and ponder, my options, which is, call in a compadre who is much more learned on this, i've been reloading for 50 years and still as last evening have issues at times, and rather than blow up or damage a gun or person, found its wise to consult, so have a breakfast meet, consult on WHY my issue is coming up, but did, turn ac on in shop, and if all goes well on consult will head out and finalize a layout, still struggling on space, i do want to move the jet 10 inch cabt saw with sliding table into shop, but am struggling giving up the old work horse delta, old guy has been a savior. so. we will see, wished i had that ten feet i lopped off during build i was talked out of, dang it. happy sunday, gonna be a dandy for sure, rj in az
