Good Monday morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

I was in the very hot and humid shop/garage yesterday and will be there today as well, making the base for the wedding cross for our oldest daughter's big event. I had to rip some long walnut boards so I set up my Shopsmith with an extension table idea I got from Doug Reed's YouTube Channel.

Shopsmith.jpg

The base is going to be 24" by 24" and 4" tall, from walnut.

I mitered the corners so the grain wraps around. I'll reinforce the corners with glue blocks on the inside, I was going to spline the corners but I did not want to take away from the wrap around grain appearance. There will be a top and bottom to further secure the mitered corners.

And of course, our shop dog Lady has to be underfoot everywhere I am in the shop. She even nips at my hands as I walk around from point A to point B, she is the center of the universe after all you know!

Have a wonderful Labor Day and week ahead folks!

While I dislike AC as it messes with my sinuses.   I am not one to boil in my own juices while working in the shop.  :D So on those days where hell as come inside to visit my shop.  Yup, I turn my 15,000 BTU AC unit on and cool it down.  :ChinScratch:

No woodworking, but I did achieve a personal goal over the weekend. I've been trying to lose weight and gte my BP down from where it was last December. In January I joined the local Y to get things going. I did get my BP down (actually that was the primary driver) but I'm also watching what i eat/drink. Anyway, Saturday I weighed in at 168.4#, down about 14# from where I started and the fitst time I've weighed less than 170 since I was in my thirties (I'm 74). My weight goal is 163. So Saturday night i celebrated with an extra beer and a really big burger, and added 1.5#:BangingHead:...not to worry, I'll continue on this week!

Been looking at getting new one last few weeks.  After 25 years mine has a small leak and could use an upgrade.

Okay, so my buddy told me to get the dinosaur out and join the 21st century.  :throbbinghead:

Our electric bill was around 400 bucks last month because of the extreme heat we are in, our home is not big, around 1600 square feet, and we set our thermostat to 78. 78 may seem high but it feels cool when you come in from 108 outside. Anyway, if it wasn't for our oldest girl with a full time job still living with us till she's married in October, we would be in deep doo doo paying the bills, she pays a third of the utilities, I don't know what the misses and me are going to do next Summer, hopefully we can get a handle on these high prices between now and then, our Kali power grid is completely horrible for what we pay. Trying to convince the wife to add a window unit in the garage, may be a challenge

Sidenote: Our usual elec bill during the summer is in the mid 200 buck range.

Now we are talking! I do have a dinky one about 16" diameter, seems to work OK, but that one you show, would do the job, and keep my shop free of dust too as I face the fan toward the garage door exit!

Luckily, we opted for a home warranty when we bought our home two years ago, because the heat pump crapped out almost immediately. The new one works well. Our house is a little over 2000 sq. ft. We keep the thermostat at 78, also. Our highest bill so far was $289 for July. It's been well over 100° most of August and, we haven't seen that bill, yet. I don't anticipate it to be much different.

We have ceiling fans in every room and, floor fans in most rooms.

I have one of these mounted upside down on a movable trolley in the shop.  Low speed most of the time.  At high it can blow dust into neighbor's yard.

Painted the mailbox...

Mine is regular mailbox with 1/2 plate steel insert.  Few years back some kids came through neighborhood hitting mailboxes, crushing them.  They got to mine, yup.  Broke that hand and dislocated the shoulder.  His mother had the audacity to send me a letter demanding payment for medical bills.  I sent her video of the entire event which also showed 4 other mailboxes he hit.  Asked if she wanted me to send the video to the Postmaster.  Never heard from them again.

Somewhat rainy weekend disrupted many outdoor plans. Did enjoy cookout last night with daughter, SIL, (2) grandsons. Boys decided they wanted to spend the night. Crock pot has tonight's get-together meal in the works.

More Trailblazer work. One transmission oil cooler line beginning to leak at a corrosion bubble. Busy week in store. Meetings at the church, football game, errands, vehicle repair maintenance/ repair. Non-mechanical garage time TBD.

Enjoy the remainder of the last official summer holiday, be safe no matter what you're doing, wear proper PPE, and if you're the last one out, "turn off the lights PLEASE!";)
