Today in the spring woodland Ben shows you a quick craft project that this beautiful season offers. The month of May has strong traditions of carving wooden whistles and whilst on their walk Ben and Lois share this fun little carving trick with you. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the warning. 

Refinishing some old lathe projects.

More mowing + other yard work. Vehicle maintenance & repair. Ongoing tool refurbs. Hopefully some hours towards my Phds. Celebration of Life Service moved from last week to Wednesday.

 

Whatever all, y'all might be doing, stay safe, hydrated, rest as needed. Accidents are always looking for a place to happen.

Wake up to the smell of freshly laid ASPHALT this morning.....they be repaving the city street out in front of the house....

 

Monday?   It figures...

The stain/Amber Shellac Sample?    Is a NO-GO at this Station...so, dumped the little can of stain into the quart can of Witch's Brew..and tried that mix/mess out..

Green has 2 coats, as red just soaked out out sight....will see how a coat of Amber Shellac looks on top..when I head down the load up the Clothes Dryer..

 

Don't ya just LOVE the smell of FRESH Asphalt in the morning....

 I'd take that over the Cat/Skunk fight outside the open window this morning. 

Started yesterday when I finally found someone to dig the trench 300 feet for water line on son's place. Today we started burying the 1 inch PEX . Had trouble straightening it out from a 100 foot coil so got an idea from a video on bending pipe. It worked well and after a struggle digging in dry clay which was like concrete got the first 100 feet done by noon. Back at it tomorrow. After the digging was almost as bad filling the dirt back in.

Today knocked out a nick-knack box for the daughter of the gal who makes these cookies - local Saturday farm market. Tomorrow doing a Power Red donation - county seat building. I'll shave before going   ;-)   Wednesday square up one or two pieces of wedge-split beam end.

Our water services are 3' deep here. A buddy told me they go 7' in Montana but he was prone to exaggeration. In Hawaii I spoke with a company which was looking for a foreperson on their pipe project. A trench 5 miles long. They were going 20' deep into the fractured lava ground. He talked me out of it; said that one not accustomed to the heat never stuck with the job. 

Only 12 inches here and when I looked it up was surprised.

12" here, also. But, I go 18". All our irrigation lines are at 18" with risers to the plants. 

Made a bunch of mulch out of 3-4 brush piles using the DR Chipper we found curb shopping earlier this year after getting it going and figuring out why the people put it out at the curb. Turns out it was missing the 1/4"sq x 1 1/4" key ($1.26 w/tax at the close expensive hardware store) that goes into the pulley for the cutting head.

Also found out the gas tanks cracked so can only fill it about half way which lets it run plenty long enough for me to be ready for a break.

Also String Mowered my way through about a 10' x 20' area that was overran with our mix of Poisonious Plants and started covering the ground with about a 3" layer of the mulch.

 

That's enough for today, I'm Pooped!

Did a shift at the furniture bank this morning.  Lots of mentors so I went off to the side and worked on repairs.   It's frustrating that the warehouse guys just keep breaking stuff by sliding around.  Pick it up, use two people, or find a dolly! Fixed five pieces and ran out of time to do more.  Of the six pieces I looked at, three had broken off legs or feet.  Included was another leg on one piece I repaired on the last visit. Grrr.

Cleaned the shop this afternoon so the wife can use the workbench to put batting on 8 quilts in progress.

 

I got some PVC pipe at the theater shop that was headed to the trash.  I set it up to use as "spacers" on pipe clamps to keep the glue lines off the clamp.  Will see if my idea works.

 

Sunday, I packed up the games for the Christmas charity and added dice to most of them and 13 pages of instructions for a variety of "bonus" dice games.

03:00 is just about the time I’m heading for bed!

Got a start on some much needed cleaning and organizing in the garage and a few small round-2-its done as well. Also, managed to get the oil + filter changed, new wiper blades and general service finally done on the truck today. Noticed I've only put 7320 miles on it in the past 55 weeks; Some weeks it sits from Sunday afternoon until the next Sunday morning...but some weeks so do I.

had our 3rd best sales this past weekend, so I've been cutting and gluing to replace inventory. that's after unloading 250bf of maple. walnut, and cherry into the shop. My goal is to build enough inventory these next three weeks that I can Sleep for the 4th week. Also ordered a new grizzly belt/disc sander to replace the Taiwanese made one that the motor (I think Capacitor) went out on last week. I only paid $40 for over a decade ago and the accuracy is nil, so I'm not even spending a minute to look into it.

 

Just looking for this week to be behind me...

Yes, after spending the week on a special "low fiber, low residue (lots of water) diet" and a day of drinking some yellow liquid most vile, my week will end with the doctor staring up into the void...

Prepping for a colonoscopy on Friday.  As I said, just wanting this week to be behind me

BTDT And 'vile' isn't a strong enough adjective.  That stuff is just incredibly nasty.

my oncologist said that, after age 75, (I'm 81) further colonoscopies were not necessary. Those polyps are so slow growing that they shouldn't give me problems for my remaing years.
