Looks like it's a direct drive model.  Hard to go wrong at $50.  I might take a piece of hard heart pine of some such to run through it.

Go back and tell them they didn't toss it all out. You would appreciate if they toss the rest while you wait.

  • Wow, that's a nice table. If it were a fiddle, I'd analyze at the encrusted perimeter of grime. A bridge table? Or more likely used by a right-handed person writing weekly notes, administering monthly

Thinking the same thing on the test wood, with Ears Eyes Lungs protection as well.  Yes, it is DD. I've had one belt drive unit but all the others have been direct drive. Typically I run them until they blow up but on this one I would take the motor up the street to The Guy.

Does that take 3" x 21" belts?  Or are the bench models different?

It takes a 4" x 36" belt.

In this neck of the woods, with the CI top, $100-$250 on CL relatively often. Looks like a functional design mobile base too.

I'd be a player at that price. Can't imagine motor issue any more than just needing bearings replaced which should be fairly easy sourced.

Neighbor had me meet them at storage cell #6 and they found me something I needed.

Neighbor thought he found a pretty decent air compressor but was sort of disappointed when I told him it wasn't an air compressor.

So he asks "What is it then"? :WonderScratch:

I replied "Do you want the Smart A$$ answer or the truth"?

His reply "Depends what the Smart A$$ answer is and what the truth is, give me the Smart A$$ answer first". <_<

:throbbinghead:

So I replied "Mine". :P

His reaction. :JawDrop:

So he replies "OK Smart A$$ what is it"?

I replied "The opposite of what you thought it was". :D

With a puzzled look on his face  he repeated "The opposite of what I thought it was"? What the?

So I let him know it's a vacuum pump for doing A/C work to which he replied "Do you know how to use it"?

I replied "That'll come in handy when I get around to replacing the A/C compressor on the Pilot".

He replied "Your right it's yours I don't know how to use it".

:ChinScratch: Looked it up online. Lists for around $475.00

If one does any resin casting, it would make a great start to a fine vacuum chamber.

All the threading has changed ... now guys are pulling Schrader valves, doing lightening vacs in 4 seconds ... the industry is run by college types.

According to a guy who used to work for me.   :)

:ChinScratch: Well I'll be danged.

Neighbor called again about 9:00 PM and had me meet them at #6 again.

So as we're unloading pulls out this.

Works perfect!

I know where mine are.  If you can't find yours I'll send them up.  Haven't used them in years either.

I'll keep that in mind, but wouldn't be surprised if they come back with a set later today.

Got the saw. Did manage to trip the overload thing pushing MAX heart pine through the old blade on it, and the 34-670 did not immediately restart, but did after a minute. The reset is flappy - replace maybe. Loud windup noise starting up. Feels weak when you strain it.  Took my time testing it out; the guy was surprised; I was probably cutting for 10 minutes.  :-)

Great overall and a really nice drive. Found the brushes for $9 / pair delivered, likely aftermarket  Avoid? Do I want OEM?

Porter Cable 1313113 Carbon Brush seems to be the spec.

Got the PDF manual. Surprised to learn there is an internal belt on this model, to transfer turn from motor shaft to arbor pulley.

VintageMachinery.org says my saw is vintage, which sounds cool. I'll likely buy some sunglasses but try not to put on airs.

Good deal.  I suspect that the brushes you got are fine.  Let us know how it works after new brushes & blade are installed.

Have not bought anything yet. The 34-670 is still in the truck. :OldManSmiley: 3-of-4 bearings are discontinued, the motor is discontinued. I'll do brushes and blade only, go from there. Thank you for the boost of optimism.

It would be nice to outfit this with a quiet motor, remove the extension tables, add a vac, and make it a dedicated basement hobby saw. For now, the neighbors will get several weeks of LOUD work as I rip through a few projects, making stock for kitchen table hobby efforts.
