February 8, 20224 yr Popular Post You win in the accomplishment and having fun game. I washed dishes, swept floors, warming chili on the stove then folded and put away laundry. Groceries to carry in yet when the Mrs. gets home. Oh yeah, also cleaned litter box, carried out trash and carried in two pieces of mail. Yep, you win in a not even close contest even though you did have to restrain that chisel.
February 9, 20224 yr Popular Post I went ona rare outing to supper with friend. Had some drinks and a nice cigar... Zero shop time.

February 9, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Was plenty of cussing going on, today...another 2-1/2 hours in the shop. had to stop, area between the shoulder blades was way too sore.. Ok, watched Episode #4 today. Sellers worked on the front of the drawer, cutting 1/2 blind dovetails.....so...here is The Plan.... Then went and made sure all the parts were cut to the right sizes....test fits, too... Drawer sides had to be shortened just a tad....tails were done first. He uses a shallow rebate on the inside of the sides. This sets how far back from the front edge of the drawer front the tails will be..Then cut the tails, chisel the waste, pare to a line.....then use the tail board to lay out the pin board... Unlike through dovetails, I can't just saw down through.....saw is at an angle, as I don't cross the baselines...Then a bunch of chisels to remove the waste.. One corner done...good thing I get better as I go along...repeat for the other end... I said I do get better...I didn't say anything about perfect.. Since this is where the video stops....so will I. Next up? Well, I do have the plywood bottom panel cut to size. Maybe tomorrow I can dovetail the back of the drawer? These will be through dovetails...I like those better..Then plow the grooves to house the bottom panel? Stay tuned..

February 10, 20224 yr Author Popular Post Today, most of the cussing reserved for the computer.. while trying to process today's pictures. Pictures also added an extra 15 minutes to the 2 hour shop time limit...anyway....tried out a dry fit, to see how the drawer will fit. . Afraid to push it too much further in... Hmmmm, one knob..or a pair? Needed to do some layout work...had the back two corners to dovetail... Then some saw work... Then some chisel work.. Half chopped, or.. The Full Monty...use these to lay out the tails...then try a dry fit... Will need a bit of clean up....repeat all the above for the last corner... then, trying to figure HOW to jig things up, to run the grooves with the Stanley 45.....gave up, as the ends of the drawer were too short, so We have ways.. That "red" is just paint, to let people know there is a sharp thing spinning there.. @ passes, plus one right down the middle to clean out any Fuzzy-bits...double checking as I went along, making sure the grooves are where they are supposed to be....then a dry fit, to see how well the plywood fit....it didn't.. Took a few tries (3?) to get the length to fit..width was fine, just too long. Nibble a bit, check, grumble, nibble a bit..finally! Might as well get this glued up... Cup has some water in it, for the brush I use to spread the glue around with.. Let this sit a day, while the sore back recovers, again. Stat tuned..
February 11, 20224 yr Author just got back upstairs from the shop...might have a PIP coming up...as soon as the pictures are processed... Settled on a single knob for the drawer, BTW
February 11, 20224 yr Author Popular Post And..here we go...back of the drawer had "issues" Decided to cut 2 plugs....had some scraps of Rosewood.... What holes? Front really didn't need much done to it...ends? Not TOO bad...sanded the top and bottom until a nice slip fit into the box... Question was... One knob, or..... Or 2 knobs.....looked a bit too "busy" so I went with the single knob. Found the center point, awl to make a starter hole.. #4 bit in the Cordless drill...didn't NEED to go all the way through...spot of glue and a clamp.. Clamp it, Jed....let this sit a bit...had Shellac to get ready... 1st coat of Amber Shellac.. PIP in effect! Front view.. Back view.. Other end view.... Airing things out....waiting on the 2nd coat... Stay tuned
