January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post ... It is Friday right? Here in the land of "Two Weeks From Anywhere" the "Battle Of The Boiler" continues. Last evening was a late one as we finished up at about 1:00AM this morning. Ended up rebuilding the complete feed water manifold piping due to the 3/4" lines becoming plugged. Also started assembling the water filtering and conditioning system that will hopefully put an end to the scale build up in the system. Still waiting on N.O.S. Float & Thermostatic Steam Traps to arrive that we found for about 1/4 the price of going through a distributor. Also waiting on a few other parts we found at similar savings. When they get here the real "Fun" begins. So,... What's on Your Weekend Agenda?
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Made a plate for metric wrench drawer at work. Previously both imperial and metric in same drawer. That got crowded.
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Tomorrow is our annual beekeeping for beginners bee school. I'm going today to set up the room and tomorrow I'm teaching one of the sessions on, you might guess it, assembling the woodenware -- hive bodies, frames, and wax foundations. We have a record 81 people attending and we've had to turn away about another 10 or 15 due to lack of space.
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Continuing the seemingly unending tasks of shop organization, today. Tomorrow, our son will be here to...hopefully...finish his vanity. He has to do a bunch of shimming of the drawers due to his choice of cheap, undersized plywood instead of the 1/2" Baltic Birch his old man specified. I can't really fault him, though. He's not a woodworker and, he believed the labels. IF we can finish it up tomorrow, I can get back to the 3 tables project Sunday. Although, there's a new laser awaiting assembly. I have to weigh the fun quotient.

What a great problem to experience. Short notice, but any way you could offer a Zoom or FB Live addition for those? With this kind of interest, going forward, maybe set up some virtual opportunities..
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Been a busy week for me at least. Still have the auction spoils in the back of my truck (under cover bed canopy). Woke up to about an inch of snow on the ground and still snowing with the temperature dropping so unloading ain't happening today either. Errands I planned for today will wait too. Tomorrow afternoon, a surprise birthday party is planned for my step-father. We have a room reserved in his assisted living facility. He'll be 95 on Sunday. Church on Sunday. As always, if you're fortunate enough to be able to work in your shop during January, wear appropriate PPE, keep hands and fingers at least 4" away from spinning blades, watch for trip/slip hazards, if you're tired, take a nap and most important, keep the sawdust out of the doughnut box.

I've done Zoom/Google Meet for a number of things from Bee and Woodworking Club to church classes and meetings. I've not been real impressed and hope that virtual school classes worked out much better.

We spent 5 months last year helping our grandson "attend" remote 1st grade. Asking a 6 year old to stare at a computer screen for 45 minutes is ridiculous. He has two sets of grandparents - I felt bad for kids with a single parent who had to work. And the teacher's job was impossible. All the little non-verbal class control techniques weren't available. Remember your teachers moving around the room or standing near you while never missing a beat?
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post About 42 years ago my FIL had 27 bee hives. He was one of few people who did and would really work at it. So many folks wanted the honey but had no interest in the bees or production of honey. It is great to see so much interest in bees now. That is awesome. I see few bees but the few that I see will come and sit on me. It seems that they just need a hack to rest on. Our night time temps are going to spend time in the freezer so I have Mexican cornbread and chilli ready to heat and eat. Will spend time watching Hope channel and 3ABN tomorrow between nursing duties. If warm enough I may get out the mower on Sunday.
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Finished a batch of ornaments for the grand kids. Only three more to do but they are the harder ones. Need to put some tools away before I start so I can drag them all out again but it's the only way to find them when I need them.
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Struggling with some Sketchup drawings. Discovered my newly built PC isn't really up to the task of quickly rendering bolt threads. On another PC note, the TPM plugin chip to upgrade my mobo hade the wrong pinout. You would think there would be a standard. Send it back. Now will I get a refund or a store credit????????? The on again/off again snow storm is now supposed to give us a little light snow tonight.

January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Only IF there be a bottle of good Irish Whiskey buried in there.... Hmm..almost Tea Time....maybe a cup of Black Tea, with a wee shot of Ryan's Irish Cream as the "creamer"? with a Coffee Cake or two? Haven't decided on what hinges to use on the box....will see..
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Got out to the shop and fired up my wood stove. Finally took time to file all the manuals for my tools , yard tools and home appliances in a small wooden file cabinet. Took time to clean up a bit. Not much else accomplished, but it was good to spend a bit of time in the shop.

Remember your teachers moving around the room or standing near you while never missing a beat? Some of the issues were some people constantly responding with "Uh-Huh", "Hmmm," and "Yes", dogs barking, and carrying on private conversations with their spouse. This made it impossible for you to talk because they had "the stage." Other "hybrid" meetings all I could see was the person who connected and you couldn't tell who there was speaking and half the time couldn't hear them. To say nothing about over or under exposure, out of focus, or people sitting in front of a window that made them impossible to see. Can't imagine what it was like with 25 second-graders.
January 28, 20224 yr Popular Post very little planned. haven't spent too much time in the shop this winter, save for making a few picture frames. want to catch the start to the 24 hours of Daytona race tomorrow. and load of laundry awaits. very exciting here.
