Been busy, plan to stay busy...

 

Did get a start on building a dresser.  In all my life, I've never had a bedroom dresser - always had chests of drawers.  So, this build is practice to do a simple pocket hole joinery dresser from some plywood and pallet scrap.  I did buy a couple 1x4's and a sheet of ply for the top.  Still have a ways to go before finish but it is shaping up.  It seems awful low, like I may have to get on my hands & knees to get to the lower drawers.  But after we've used it for a bit I will make whatever changes I think we would like on the next "for real" build.  Of course, I said this same thing when I build the kitchen island - and SWMBO said it wasn't going anywhere!  The "plans" for this is a mish-mash of about 7 or 8 different plans I reviewed.  We'll see how it turns out.

 

 

I also spent Sat. afternoon mowing the lawn, or weeds in the lawn.  We had some beautiful 70's weather, and yesterday may have even kissed 80*.

 

This week I have some grading being done in the back yard.  A house is being built on the lot next door, and while the equipment is here I thought this is the time.  Will also continue to piddle along with the dresser and if Wednesday is rainy & cold as predicted, plan to complete our taxes.

Working on this drying rack. Good progress but still takes time.  Been using more joinery and less fasteners as possible.  Reused the top from old drill press cabinet. It was removable to access the parts washer.  Probably never take it out but option is available.  Couldn't see wasting it.  It's solid and topped with Formica.  That much less to finish later.

 

 

Our new to us house has nearly finished it's transition from house to home. Yesterday, Phyl hung all the pictures and art work we brought from our home up north. Her sewing room has emerged from a place to store tools to a working quilt shop and office. Kitchen is finally complete to her specs. Now, it's full bore shop construction for me. When we moved, All the woodworking tools and equipment were stored in the metal shop building. It has quickly become evident that there is a need for tons of work to transform this bare metal building to a decent shop. Starting with sealing all nooks and crannies that are open to the outside then insulating against the anticipated 110° summers. Since all the walls and ceiling need to be accessible, most of the tools and equipment has been moved outside and tarped, under an attached 25X35 awning attached to the shop building. There is still 20' of a bare 8' stud wall remaining from a previous owner's puppy mill operation. I'll try to keep that wall intact and, move it in total, over to a bare metal wall and, attach it. The plan is to erect stud walls around the interior perimeter anyway. This'll give me a little head start. I'm still optimistically...I hope not unrealistically...to have a workable shop by mid April.

Monday? ...Since we're not forecast to make it up to freezing today, I guess I'll be waiting until tomorrow to see if the stand we dug out of the snowbank yesterday can be reworked for my intended purpose. 

Still working on turning table legs and the progress is a little slower than I would like. Still, it's progress. But I need to get a dust collection arrangement set up for the sanding part next so I guess I'll be trying to make a stand for a Big Gulp thingy...or maybe I'll just get a large HVAC boot.

Thanks for the Featured Topic recognition John.  I'm honored.  Been playing with my new gizmo and practicing my skew cuts while pondering my next project.  Doing some Spring cleaning too. 

I wish these white winged doves would learn how to get out of the feeders!!!!

When one gets in there the others likes to pile in also but none can ever find the hole to get out. There is two in this time. Sometimes I let them stay until three gets in..It seem like they don't know how to point their heads up.

Well, this old Sears screaming mimi vacuum was bought in 1984 and got a little close to the fire the other day. It still works with no leaks happy to say.

By chance neighbor brought me alot of 1/2 EMT cut offs.  They fit in same holes, got lucky and saved some money. On this part anyway.  

Whats on my workbench? I do have a couple of things and was eager to start on one. HOWEVER, this morning my wife said "Don't forget you have your dentist appt at 12:30"  Yes, my first ever root canal. Kinda shot my day for sure. Sometimes I think that people with dentures are better off. NO more dentists, no root canals, no extractions and no cavities!!

As I threatened previously. This is what I was doing all weekend. Besides vegetating and the occasional nap.

 

Had 5 of the Stetson hat racks and 6 of the Texas wall plaques.

 

Would write more but it's naptime.

nothing.  did nothing in my shop this weekend, and nothing is planned for this week.

 

you can call me slacker, but don't call me late for dinner.

Really? 

Went to the furniture bank this morning for 3 hours.  We built 16 dining tables (assembled legs, rounded over table top and corners, aprons, and legs) assembled all parts and got them painted, then cut up 12 sheets of melamine for next round of tables, and I repaired a small table, a dresser, and legs on an upholstered chair. I think there were six of us there, though one guy had to leave early.  We have production down.

 

Ran some errands on the way home, one of which was to pick up 8 chairs to take into them.  Went to Rockler and got two of their folding knife kits to take to my grandsons (16 y.o., both working on Eagle Scout)

Spending hours on the phone trying to get my Mom's tax forms.

 

I did get some time on Sunday to tinker with a new steady rest design.
