April 4, 20215 yr Popular Post Okay @lew but I gotta tell ya alot of my turning projects are just small pieces or related to a shop project. Fancy they are not, but they are functional. Posted new one today.
April 4, 20215 yr Popular Post Not sure of any importance, but soon I’m going to be trying to turn for the very first time. I will take pictures and post. I’m thinking it is a simple project, but having never turned before, we’ll see LOL.

December 31, 20214 yr Posting projects is becoming a challenge and increasingly more difficult. It is like jumping thru hoops and ladders. Choose a forum, select a forum category, add key words, Then if you make a mistake, you may have to start again. It was a simple process at one time, it is not now. I suppose it could be there to discourage hackers, it is discouraging to me and I'm sure to other frequent users. Can't this be simplified?
January 1, 20224 yr Author @Ron Altier I haven’t noticed any difference in the way we post. There were some subtopics added to help keep stuff sorted a little better. Tags have been with us for years. I try to check the Turner’s forum about once a week and add forgotten tags to posts.

January 3, 20224 yr First, is it necessary to go thru all of these selections just to post? If I want wood turning, just one choice WOOD TURNING is all that is necessary. Second, Is it necessary to post tags when most do not have meaning and most people just put words in to get by. My biggest problem is I can no longer post pictures with my Mac. NO IDEA WHY. It happened after an update. This site don't recognize the file and rejects it. I have not changed a thing. If I want to post a picture, I have to use my iPhone. This may no sound like much, but when you have large limited travel fingers, it is a problem to use small things like an iPhone without hitting somethings I never intended and I may have to start again. I'm just an old guy venting. I really do enjoy the PWW and will continue to be a visitor.

Can you post the error/reject message? and how you take your pictures? Edited January 3, 20224 yr by lew

Ron, I've discussed this with John at length, he's committed to the tags being a valuable thing. I don't use them, but others add them to any posts after it's up. But I'm on a mac, and I simply drag the photo and drop it below where it says "drag files here to attach". Does that not work for you?
January 3, 20224 yr Ron, you should go to the main forum and simply click on "Wood Turning Forum" and then click on "Start New Topic" and that's it. Like most forums I have ever visited it's two steps: Select forum Start topic It's the same here. Also, while I do love tags, and love it when folks enter them correctly, single words, not phrases, a couple words max. They are very helpful to others who would like to navigate to similar topics. If you tag your topic with "oak" and a user clicks on the tag "oak" then they are taken to similar topics that are related to "oak". That being said, tags are not mandatory, you do not have to add them in order to have your topic go live. Just skip the tags. I see our members submitting tags like phrases, such as "wild bird pattern". That tag does not work, folks are overthinking the whole tag thing. Just simple single words or like I said, two words max. Because the likelihood of anyone tagging their topic with that exact same tag is one in a million. So there would be no other topic to relate that tag. Folks just need to keep it simple, if your topic contains the subject of building a bookcase made from oak, using dovetail joinery, simply tag the topic with related words such as "bookcase", "oak", "dovetail". Then when a user sees those tags, and if they want to search for similar topics, they can click on a tag, then they'll be taken to all the topics tagged with one of those tags. Because the likelihood of someone else using those same tags for their topic, is very high, IF, FOLKS KEEP IT SIMPLE! KISS, keep it simple, it's such a simple thing to do, and it's a courteous thing to do for people in the future to search relevant topics. I look at our forums as an informational data base for people to use, to research projects, methods, materials etc. Please see this topic at:
January 3, 20224 yr Here is a good example of a topic with tags, click on the tag "poplar" and see what happens. If you were looking for ideas regarding poplar, you'd be directed to the topics and content such as media, tagged with "poplar". If you click on the tag "pine" you'll get a wonderful display of topics related to pine.
January 3, 20224 yr One possible I have run into on some places is the format of the picture. Apple uses something called HEIC and most sites use jpeg and a few more like it. You can get free converters if this is the problem.

Gerald, what extension is used at the end of an apple image, if not .jpg or .png or .jpeg etc, what does apple use? I can add it to our allowed file extensions list if not already there. Thanks for the heads up.

Here is a quote from the Apple website: With the “Most Compatible” setting enabled, all iPhone images will be captured as JPEG files, stored as JPEG files, and copied as JPEG image files too. This can help for sending and sharing pictures, and using JPEG as the image format for iPhone camera was the default since the first iPhone anyway.

There is an option on iphone to change format for pics and there are free converters.
