December 7, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Halftime again....clamps came off..tested the tray for fit... almost a piston fit. worked on the lid a bit....rips down both sides, a little bit at a time...saved one of the thin off-cuts, cut in half, glued to the ends...tested the lid for fit a few times, with the tray inside.. Started doing slight round-overs at the top edges, and the corners.... Will work on the gaps, next time, in the shop....debating on how to attach some hinges... Surface mount, or try a mortise ( chance of splitting a side of the box) may just surface mount these... have ordered some latches..better version than these.. Hobby Lobby has a pair that I ordered, along with a handle that will fold down....S&H was twice what the two items cost...sheesh. Stay tuned...
December 7, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Hinges have been installed... Lid works as it is supposed to.. Hmmm, thinking these are way too big for this box... Maybe? Only enough room for one of these, anyway.....will wait on the Hobby Lobby latches to show up....
December 8, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Monday...shop was closed for the day.....awaiting the arrival of the hardware...last time, it took at least a week...this time? We'll see... Played around with some Red Cedar... Ooops....we have more... Just something to do, while waiting at the mail box..

December 9, 20205 yr Author Popular Post It was sent out today..via USPS.....with a tracking number.....hopefully will get here by next weekend? Basically, I just took today off for the shop.....Uncle Charles was bothering one leg, today.....makes going up and down stairs a bit of a bother.... Will hunt down the stain brush, tomorrow...and give everything that looks like Ash a coat of "Early American" Debating on how much to stain the insides...
December 9, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Roh...kay, Raggy...tray needed some edges cleaned up whether by a Dremel sanding drum..or With a block plane. Got out the stain, church key, and brush...things are going to get...messy Best way to open a can of stain. Results of "Brush on, wipe off"? Set aside for now....( might be a PIP in a bit?) Next...gap control... Seems a high spot won't let the lid close? we have ways... Once that was fixed...I chucked a 3/8" round-over bit into the 'lectric Router and rounded the corners on the ends...and sanded things down to 220 grit... Insides were then stained...."brush on, wipe off"..closed the lid, and stained the bottom of the box.. Turn it over, and work from one end... Around to the back.. Around the other end to the front... gaps look a bit better...Lid was last....wiped this all down...and set the tray in place.. Hardware has left Oklahoma City, OK last night....hard telling WHEN it will show up here... let this sit a day, wipe it down once more, and see about a coat of clear gloss poly..... Stay tuned, we getting there...

And then post about "cleaning up" all the sawdust / shavings.
