London Green Wood is a not-for-profit cooperative and a community of green woodworkers based in Abney Park Cemetery, Hackney. Our aim is to encourage crafty-ness, creativity and self-reliance in everybody. From our outdoor woodland workshop, using locally felled wood, we bring heritage crafts to the heart of the city and make basic woodcraft skills available to all. We use hand tools and green wood straight from the log. Source: London Green Wood

Hmm, what did I get "done" over the weekend... I did get the lawn mowed and I did get to watch the UGA game Saturday.  Not sure what Coach Smart said to the players at the half, but I wish they could box it up and make it available to all of us!  I also made up a piece of end cap trim to use around the fireplace hearth.  I didn't get it painted though, that will be today.

Balance of the week will be spent laying laminate flooring in the living room, installing trim and touch up as needed.  Oh, by the time most of that is done the lawn will need mowing again:)  Looks to be a right busy week in front of me.

Hey @Cal, We'll be laying laminate in our new place. Haven't picked it out yet. What brand/type are you using?

Gene, we had put some laminate in our living room right after we moved here. The was 4 years ago and the flap about Lumber Liquidators and the Chinese laminate which had something undesirable  in it (don't remember details) led us to search for USA made flooring. It was tough to find, the 4th place we checked had some. Anyway, something to keep in mind though I suspect whatever that chemical was has been dealt with (it might have been formaldehyde).

We used Pergo. That was before the snap together type. All the joints were glued. Still holding up- no signs of wear or joint separations.

Calling for rain today, and we got a trace.  So I took some sections of some maple trees that I pruned out of the back .40 (our about 1/2 acre of pasture now wildflowers).  I carved out a couple of spoons a la Wille Sundqvist.   Still in the rough stage, as they'll need to dry a bit before being able to sand out smooth and finesse the shape.  I tried using some alternate tools -- patternmaker's rasp (fail) drawknife and spokeshave (success) in addition to the Mora knife.

Gene, we are using Lumber Liquidators materials.  Laminate in the LR, bedrooms and sunroom and LVT in the kitchen, DR and bathrooms.

I had bought it all a few years ago when I started remodeling the house so that it would match.  I don't know about Pergo and other brands, but it does seem at LL that they sell this design and style today but next month they change out and you are SOL if you need more to match what you started.  Also, the cost of the laminate is pretty cheap - it's the trim, underlayment and anything extra you need/want that runs up the cost of the job.  A lot like plumbing, we'll give you the pipe - but hold on when you need a fitting!

If I were starting over today I would likely go 100% LVT.  It looks great, no worries if anything spills on it.  And I think it is less noisy also.

I forgot to mention yesterday that going into October this week, and it is time for the tea olive shrubs to bloom.  You may know it by another name, the actual name is osmanthus or something like that.  These flowers are so sweet, my neighbor said yesterday that it is like ripe peaches.  I have several in different spots of the front and side yard.  When they all bloom in the fall right now it makes the whole end of the street smell great!  You cannot walk anywhere in my yard today without smelling them:)

They actually bloom on & off all winter, a brief cold snap and some rain and they bloom again - but the first blooms in the fall are always the biggest & best of the year.  I love to work outside at this time and just enjoy the sun, warmth and smell of the tea olives.

Not to be outdone the lantana is still in full bloom.  This shrub is a favorite of hummingbirds and butterflies.  I spent about 30 minutes yesterday chasing butterflies from one shrub to another trying for some good pics with my phone:D

Place looks great @Cal

Anyone know what hospital Charles Nichols is in?  Tried to text him last week and no reply. Tried today and says unavailable to accept calls. Being he has been in hospital since end of May. I am thinking his phone may have been cut off.  Would like to find out, maybe pay on the bill if that's the case.
