June 7, 20206 yr Popular Post Had a pipe burst and been trying to dry out the carpet in a closet and mop up in basement. It was an external faucet and it took a couple of days to find it. I empted the upholstery cleaning machine this morning and I probably pulled out 2 gal of water over a 5 sq ft area. Ugh. Plumber coming Tuesday. Fortunately, it only leaks when the faucet is on. Checked the bees this morning and I probably have 100+ lb of honey in one hive. Fully half of that they added in the last month. Way to go, girls! The swarm I caught a month ago is also full of capped brood so they will be in full swing too. Finished up this little box to hold some of the historical family photos and documents. Now I get to get the scanned images up to familysearch.org. And strawberries are in. Some from the garden and used my grandmother's shortcake recipe. Keep me in your prayers, I go in Monday for some more surgery. Parathyroid glands in neck need to be removed.

So it burst along the shank. Apparently any water that doesn't drain out has to expand somewhere! May your hospital visit be brief.
June 8, 20206 yr Popular Post Home and doing well. Taking it easy for 1-2 weeks. Hormone level dropped from 148 (above normal) to 12 (low range of normal) while I was in the OR. No kidding it gets quick results.

Sorry for the slip it was Ukrainian weekend at the house. Means we only speak Ukrainian and call home to speak with family. I am not so quick to jump back and forth. Unlike my wife who translates all day for work.

What sort of job does she have? Who are her clients? Are there lots of Ukranian speakers in your area? Isn't John Morris' daughter training in that area for the Army? People who deal with languages fascinate me.

I had an aunt (second cousin, actually) in Neversink, NY, who was a translator for some big corporation, as well as the US government. IIRC, she spoke 13 languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese as well as most European languages. Wish I had that kind of talent! John Edited June 9, 20206 yr by HARO50
June 9, 20206 yr Once, we had a group of Japanese from our office over there come in for a meeting. Though they spoke some English, they preferred if we would get a translator. So the company contacted an agency and they sent one out. Low and behold, it was the daughter-in-law of some good friends of mine. Their son was in the the Air Force there and met and married a local. Their kids were kind of funny -- two had distinctly Japanese first names and looked mostly caucasian, the third had a distinctly English name and looked mostly Japanese.
