Are you comfortable here?

Last time I was asked this it was followed up 2 hours later with a lay-off check.

That's funny.   Last time i was asked that was right before a colonoscopy.   My lay-off check was nearly two years ago. :(  I hadn't planned on it, but i was overdue.  B)

  • Couldn't be happier John. I was called to the personnel office years before my retirement. They told me I seemed unhappy. Told them I was very happy, but when I saw something happening I didn't like,

John,

Great  place to visit and learn lots of things.  Woodworking is the premier part of it, but the interfacing with others getting their input, advice, and friendly comments are all on equal footing.  I take home way more than I contribute, and hate to miss a day, which seems to happen more often than I would like.

Ok folks, it sounds like life is good here. Thank you all for being here.

You all are the ones carrying this place, without you all, we have nothing. I can't think of a funner and more positive group of craftsmen, artists, and tradesmen to be around and I've seen quite a few forums in the last 10 years, and I can factually say, this forum has got to be the most mature of them all, rarely do I see an ego pop up, rarely if ever do I see a negative critique appear that is based on bad feelings, and everyone is very helpful. Not to say we have not had negativity here grounded in bad feelings, but we just didn't give that the energy it craved and it naturally left our presence. The old saying, ignore it and it'll go away, well in the forum communities, it really works. :)

Thanks again guys, and gals, we need more gals! Thanks for being here. :Praise:

This is my go to spot for scratching my woodworking itch and looking and browsing over related content. I've not seen anything that hit me wrong since I've joined. Thumbs up.

Actually, and seeing as how you have asked John... and I know that it has been mentioned before and something in the "programing" doesn't allow it, but things change and I just want to mention it again to keep it on the list for future enhancements when it can be done.

When mashing a thread in "unread content" it always goes to the first post, rather than where I left off.

Maybe the programmers doing the site updates and such figure that unread content is simply not seen before, rather than unread since the last visit?

Anyhow, you did ask:)

@Cal,

:ChinScratch:..That's strange, when I go to a topic that I've been to before I usually get "New Content Begins Here"

Larry, even when you are in "unread content"?  It does that for me for those few threads on the forum page, but not in u-c.  If this is simply a setting in my computer you could make me a happy camper today to fix it.

I generally only visit once a day, while I have my morning coffee - so most of my browsing is in the u-c section:)  Sometimes I spend more time looking rather than reading, especially on an active thread.  I start on page one (by default), hit the "last page", read a post or two, realize I need to back up a page, back up and search for the "new content banner" and start over...  It's raining this morning and I have plenty of time; some days I want to get going and have to be a bit more selective in which threads I actually bring up & read...

Cal, if you click on the time area of the post it will bring you to the last post and if you scroll backwards through the post you'll see a black bar that separates the most recent post since your last visit.

It's easier than what I just explained:WonderScratch:

I've found clicking on the "xxx replies" area does the same thing.

I have really missed this place for the past few weeks.  My old Toshiba died, so I used my wife's laptop when she let me.  It was pain and agony to not be here.  So glad to see the site is still going strong without me.  My, how you've grown.  I am so proud of you.  The best company anywhere.  Thanks for being here and making me feel welcome.  :P

Bob & Jim, thanks a big bunch!  I had to go back a forth a couple times to see what you were referring to, but they both will save a step or two.  Many thanks again for these tips.

Just thought I'd bump this to the top, so, howyall doing?

I am still here, checking in daily, you may not see me here every day but I am here, I check in every morning, I check in throughout the day on my smart phone from my day job, and the last thing I do before I turn in for the night, is to check in here, just to make sure you all are good, no spammers broke through (thanks to Ron Dudelston that's very rare) and to see that our software is performing at peak.

My projects are far and few in between, I have however started a shooting bench for the range yesterday, pics today. I still have my son's school desk pending from last September, and honey do's all around the home that require substantial funding to fix, so we are saving, and of course the kids and mama have kept me jumping as always.

It's a crazy world these days, I like coming here to be around "normal" folks, I know, it's all relative, but I love our folks here.

So folks, you all still happy here? Any improvements you'd like to see? Anything you are tired of seeing? Comments positive and negative are most welcome!

Edit: Oh ya, still we have our wiki that has been stagnant, I just have not had the time to work on it. But is still here!

Thanks for being here!

I know what ya mean Fred, my woodworking has tapered, I miss it, lately though it's just been too hot to even get in the garage and do woodworking, daytime highs of 109.

During the work week I been out in the desert working in 115 to 120 degrees, the last thing I want to do on the weekends is work in a garage that is 100 degrees!

John, I am very happy with the sight.  I am getting more time to spend here because of the heat.  I can't do it like I used to.  I have to mow at the crack of dawn or in the twilight and at the end of the day, it is still about 90.  But, as you said, it is fun to come and chat with folks who are welcoming, reasonable? and fun.  I really do enjoy my time here.  I can't seem to catch up to all the posts and I miss a few folks that I used to see here and enjoy.  I hope all are well and not unhappy.

John, I noticed on the news a couple days ago about a fire on the west coast, but I didn't get to hear.  Is it near you?

The Forums site is fine the way it is as it seems.  I've been spending quite a bit of time on here as well.  Especially now since I've gotten into recording the turning work so during the time it takes to edit its a toss up between here and youtube.  But nope seems alright.
