Hopefully I'll be able to join you in another year Ron. Been budgeting for an old daily driver pick up. Looking for something in the 1940's or 50's, International, or a Ford. I'd even settle for

  • @Ron Altier, I remember when my parents had a 30 Model A Ford.  I even had a wreck in that car.  Did more damage to the other car than ours.  The other driver tried to blame me, of course, but as luck

  • Come with me to courthouse sometime.  Watch what crap I put up with when they go to scanning.  One time the nitwit cow sitting on a stool told me to remove the pins and plates.  Yeah okay sure.  Then

Well that's interesting. What is the story on it?

I just love to play... I wanted to make a very low RPM

Gen-set. I can light a 120v light with this just by turning

The main shaft with no speed increase gearing just using

my hand. Spinning a little faster I can spark a spark plug.

By changing the wires I can get many different voltages.

One RPM gives me 60 cycle electric. Very high power

magnets. Just fun to play with....

My other hobbies are domestication.  Cleaning and cooking, running to pick up the grandchildren on some days of the week.  While waiting for the school buses to arrive, I read AARP and the Bible.  Also, read other books by theologians.  Interesting stuff.  I know, I am very boring.

Doubt that.  You could spice up the Bible reading with a few Ancient Aliens videos.....:ChinScratch:

Try this one out for size.  Pretty interesting stuff.   Not into the conspiracy stuff but these videos often have rare and unusual photos you won't find elsewhere.

Sure, sure - and I bet you used to buy Playboys just to read the articles too:ROFL:

At 35 minutes I will watch it later.  I like to watch this stuff too, and wonder how it was done and why it was done.

Out of the car interest phase, we live in a townhouse, no garage, two of us, two parking spots. In years past owned 73 Firebird, 68 Mustang, 70 Mustang. Only other hobby I still practice is metal detecting, and almost only at the beaches, these days.

I swing a MD on occasion too Artie.

Steve, we can be boring together. What are you reading?  Just finishing a book on Christian based poverty alleviation called, “Becoming Whole”.

One article got me interested in woodworking.  :JawDrop:

I have been reading some books about Sola Scriptura, arguments between 2 schools of thought about whether the common man should own and read a Bible or if the church should be the only teacher.  I found this information at a site called Academia.edu and you can choose the scholars you and articles you wish to read.  Also, I have been studying on my own.

AARP is full of information regarding scams, phishing and other problems that face uninformed and aged folks.  There is also much discussion of cutting Social Security and Medicare.  I get a bit defensive when I read this as we Federal Employees paid 7% of our wages into our retirement fund with no contributions or management by government or anyone else.  And, we paid for the health and life insurance brought in by President Eisenhower in 1959.  When I reached age 65, I was told I also have to subscribe to Medicare.  Now, I have my health insurance and Medicare.  It is expensive, but I don't get much benefit from it.  At $585 per month for Blue Cross Blue Shield and another $145 or so per month for Medicare, I don't normally have to pay for labs or doctor visits and I have no conditions which drains their pots dry.  So I am paying for others which is alright but being forced to take something that I already have coverage for grates me a little.  I see my doctor once per year, with fasting labs and a follow up visit.  I do have Type 11 diabetes which I have been able to manage well with diet and exercise.  But, now they want to cut all the benefits and keep the premiums up or raise the premiums.  Just like the rest of us, if you are spending the money, increase budget support for that project.  But, that is a political issue and I'll just grin and bear it.  Doesn't it just warm your heart?

I restored this over a period of 12 years, sadly selling it 10 years ago: 1957 Porsche 356A ...

Up until 15 years ago, over a period of about 20 years, I was also something of a serious windsurfer, sailing on our national circuit. That was pretty intense. Since retiring (too old to keep up with the youngsters), there has been more time for woodwork.
