Well, relatives left today. No shop time for the past week between subbing and family obligations.

Our Patriot Turners-

@Ron Altier asked our members for clarification on what are the different measurements when reading the lathe specification. He received some great input. If this has ever caused you to scratch your head, check out his post-

@Gerald offered some great information he picked up from a guest speaker at their turning club meeting. Mark Sillay was their guest and provided insight into several areas of turning. Check out Gerald's post and pick up some really great tips-

@HandyDan continues to turn out his custom bullet pens. He recently perfected his copper plating process and now has three different pens colors.

Dan explains more in his post.

@HandyDan also gave us a heads up on some stolen woodturning tools. Please read his post and keep an eye out for anything suspicious-

For The Newbies-

If you are considering trying to turn a bowl but don't have a chuck, yet, don't despair. Mike Peace demonstrates how you can do this

Expand Your Horizons-

M. Saban-Smith posted a video on using a scorching process along with other embellishments to create a gorgeous ash vase. With the ash borer around, it isn't too hard to find ash to turn.

 Sure do agree with that!!!  I hate turning plastics though.  Maybe @Gerald should consider these for his offering plates.  The thumb hole would make a nice handhold for them.

Thanks Lew enjoyed this weeks videos.  I have never made a bowl without a chuck.  Gluing to waste blocks isn't on my favorite things to do.  Scares me.

Turning a bowling ball is a challenge that I won't do. I turn small acrylics and the ribbons of plastic mess up my lathe and whole area. It gets in threads, chucks, etc, not to mention all over me and the shop too. I don't use my Vac, I think it would plug up the hose and hang up on the impeller, etc.

Thanks Lew, creativity abounds this week. Dan's pens are  so impressive to me. I also agree with Dan about turning plastics or resin. I have turned some corian and just don't like those clingy shavings.

Thanks Lew. I will go with the rest of the crew acrylic is not in my baleywick. On the other hand there are some people doing some neat stuff with the clear resin to make eggs or balls with wood at the bottom and clear on top.

@Woodbutcherbynight I'll say! Never even considered one of those!

@HandyDan Thanks! I turned a bowling pin when I was in high school but it was solid maple. I have used glue blocks often and they have always held OK. For smaller work, I use a paper joint with them.

@Ron Altier Acrylics sure can be messy!

@Steve Krumanaker Thank You!

@Gerald Thanks!
