Maybe @Gerald should consider these for his offering plates. The thumb hole would make a nice handhold for them. Thanks Lew enjoyed this weeks videos. I have never made a bowl without a chuck. Gluing to waste blocks isn't on my favorite things to do. Scares me.
May 23, 20197 yr Turning a bowling ball is a challenge that I won't do. I turn small acrylics and the ribbons of plastic mess up my lathe and whole area. It gets in threads, chucks, etc, not to mention all over me and the shop too. I don't use my Vac, I think it would plug up the hose and hang up on the impeller, etc.
May 23, 20197 yr Thanks Lew, creativity abounds this week. Dan's pens are so impressive to me. I also agree with Dan about turning plastics or resin. I have turned some corian and just don't like those clingy shavings.
May 23, 20197 yr Thanks Lew. I will go with the rest of the crew acrylic is not in my baleywick. On the other hand there are some people doing some neat stuff with the clear resin to make eggs or balls with wood at the bottom and clear on top.
May 24, 20197 yr Author @Woodbutcherbynight I'll say! Never even considered one of those! @HandyDan Thanks! I turned a bowling pin when I was in high school but it was solid maple. I have used glue blocks often and they have always held OK. For smaller work, I use a paper joint with them. @Ron Altier Acrylics sure can be messy! @Steve Krumanaker Thank You! @Gerald Thanks!
