Popular Post Ron Dudelston Posted March 1, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 1, 2019 Here were are on the first day of March! The calendar says spring is on the way, the groundhog says that spring is on the way, but Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. We’re supposed to get 4 - 6 inches of the white stuff this weekend, but it is basketball sectional time in Indiana. Grandpa Dave will understand the previous statement. Speaking of basketball, our local team, the Blackford Bruins (22-4) take on the #1 ranked Delta Eagles (26 - 0) in the sectional tonight. Our Bruins have a Sophomore by the name of Luke Brown that is averaging 36 points a game and on track to breaking the state scoring record. Google it and watch his videos because he’s an amazing young man. As for woodworking, I’ve been trivet making this week and just started building a California king bed for a client. She’s not in a hurry and neither am I. So, what’s on your Patriot Woodworker Weekend Agenda? Grandpadave52, HARO50, p_toad and 6 others 8 1 Quote
lew Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 The snow train stopped here overnight and dumped about 3" of the stuff. More on the way for Saturday and Sunday. Got the chainsaw started yesterday and cut up an elm limb that came down during the wind storm we had last weekend. Might be able to get a small, natural edge bowl turned from it if it is not too punky. Thad, FlGatorwood, Cal and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post Gene Howe Posted March 1, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 1, 2019 (edited) Hey Ron. You need something in you pics for scale. And, I gotta read closer. I thought your trivet was the CA king headboard. As an IL native, I know the extreme importance of the sectionals. Good luck to your Bruins. Should be a barn burner tonight. I miss the excitement of the season. HS basketball is not real big out here. Nothing like the midwest. After languishing for 2 years, I finally got around to playing with my laser. Burned a grid on the waste board. It's a whole new skill and mindset. I'm most assuredly not used to the mental discipline required. Today we'll try a picture. Hope I don't burn down the shop. Harry Brink Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 STILL no wood working. Over 2 feet of snow in the back yard with no place to move it. When it does start warming up the water will come in the back door and down to the basement. p_toad, Thad, Grandpadave52 and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post John Morris Posted March 1, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 1, 2019 Great looking project Ron! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and productive. I finally got a chance to get in the shop this past weekend and make a couple vanity doors for my kids bathroom vanity I built last year and installed. My mind was like, ok, got a few weekends ahead I may be able to have some fun with, then my dear mom started suffering complications from her fall a few weeks ago that fractured her upper arm in 3 different places. On top of that she has COPD and 80yrs old, it's a rough go. So the stress she is under from her constant pain and movement she has to make to get around for the day, exasperated her COPD and yesterday morn she has to be admitted to the hospital. Her oxygen was very low and they were able to stabilize her and get her breathing again with some aids, she may be on oxygen from here on out during her normal daily living. Needless to say, wife and I been running around the last couple days, I took off from work early yesterday, I have Fridays off, I work a 10/40 week so I could run around today and get things done for mom, and this weekend will be full of hospital visits and making sure she has what she needs, hopefully they'll discharge her this weekend so we can get her home and in her comfort zone, she loves MSNBC, CNN and NPR News Radio and she misses it horribly, it's part of her daily routine. If we can get her back home, set up with her knitting, and in front of the TV, life will be great, and after this event it looks like she'll qualify through her health insurance for a some home care visitations, so there is a silver lining to being in the hospital. Parents getting old, 86 yr old Dad is needing assistance too, I must admit, it's getting a little overwhelming, but if we just take it one day then the next, we seem to be doing ok. Thanks for hearing me out, felt good writing about it all. Cheers, and please be safe in all you do! Like ol Ralph Jones (Sawdustr, I miss him) used to say, never let your hands or fingers get within 6" of the spinning blade! FlGatorwood, Dadio, Cal and 9 others 8 2 2 Quote

Wouldn't be Sectional time without a snow...However this snow is supposed to come late Saturday night instead of just prior or during the Championship game. Left many a Championship game and wondered if I would get home. 8 hours ago, Ron Dudelston said: Speaking of basketball, our local team, the Blackford Bruins (22-4) take on the #1 ranked Delta Eagles (26 - 0) in the sectional tonight. Scored his 1000th point in only his 32nd HS game. Damon Bailey took 37 games. Barring any major injuries, he's on the glide path to be the all-time Indiana scorer. That said, the interviews I've seen and again what I've read, he's quite humble, an all-around team first player and just a good kid period. IIRC correctly, Delta is the only unbeaten team remaining this year. Pulling for ya' Ron & the Blackford Bruins even if they did whip us in the football sectional semi-finals. Grandpadave52 Posted March 1, 2019 Report Posted March 1, 2019 Finished getting all the weights placed in my oldest grand-son's Pinewood Derby entry. Tonight is check-in/weigh-in. Has to weigh exactly 5 oz...no more, no less. I nearly screwed up...had my scale set on grams instead of ounces. Took off too much wood...he got it final sanded and painted last night. Picking him up after Scout meeting tonight. Rest of the weekend TBD except for church Sunday AM. Sounds like Sunday evening I will be relocating snow and getting ready for sub-zero temperatures again. Weather guessers say the 110+ year old record cold temperature for Monday is likely to be eclipsed. I hate it when my spring comes uncoiled. Cal, FlGatorwood, HARO50 and 1 other 1 3 Quote

Popular Post HandyDan Posted March 1, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted March 1, 2019 Friend of mine shoots a .308 rifle and wants me to see if I can make them into a pen. The shell appears to be about a 1/4" shorter than the .30-06. I will have to see what I can figure out. FlGatorwood, Grandpadave52, Cal and 3 others 6 Quote
