February 18, 20196 yr Author Popular Post These are block planes and work very well, when I set the blade I test them all on a piece of Doug Fir 2X4 edgewise (1 1/2"). They seem to work the best planing at a slight angle to the side of the 2X4. I think that a jointing plane would be larger, they do make wooden jointing planes. HMmmmmmmm...................Maybe a larger version of these could be a jointing plane.....Got me thinking now. Quit that! I have other things to build. heehee. Michael, these are essentially a block plane. However, to answer your questions, yes, certainly, wooden planes can be jointers. Here is a photo of one of mine. It is ca. 1850-60 and is one of my favorite planes.

I love your pens, Dan, you can't have them back. Herb I got the plane Herb reserved for me in the mail today. It is a wonderful piece that I will cherish not only because it is a work of art but also because of how I came to own it. I know herb made these planes to be used and the iron is razor sharp and ready to go but I will put it on my shelf of favorites. Thanks so much Herb.
