  • Today I cutout the shape of the plane to match the side panels.   I will save the last piece I cut off to make the wedge that holds the blade in the slot.       Now

  • Herb, you're just plane good.

So today I just worked on the wedges that hold the blades in the plane bodies. I used the scrap that was left over when I cut the planes out. That way the stripes match each plane they came from.

Those planes are great Herb.  What's the metal patch on the flat side for?

You did a thread on the sanders the beginning of December of "2016".  Here is a link to it to save you the time of doing it again.  We weren't using many "Tags" back then.

I KNOW!!!! I KNOW!!!

piece of identity tape to keep the parts synced...

Beautiful work on those planes, Herb. They're gorgeous. Your attention to detail in matching the wedges to the planes is awesome.

Where/how did you obtain the blades? I'll bet sharpening all of them took some time.

Yup, I was wondering when someone would ask. I bought all the blades off ebay. I found a bundle of 10/ brand new Stanley block plane blades for $4.50 ea., and the rest were a bundle of 10/brand new  Stanley's for $8.50 ea.,which is a bargain. The beater blades run anywhere $10,$15,$25,$35, on up to $125. for block plane blades depending on their antique value.

They are factory sharpened and all I will have to do is hone them to razor sharpness.

Stick is right ,the tape on the back is for easy reference to which plane gets what. Some are very close to the same.

Thanks, Dan, I did a search but it didn't come up.  Just a good lesson in the value of "Tags":JawDrop:

Better get several boxes of band-aids or a roll of shop towels & duct tape...it will be like a "Wet Paint-Do Not Touch" sign...you know they will:lol: I say that because I know I would:Laughing:

I am working on the second Phase of 9 more now and the 1/4"brass rod arrived from McMaster Carr, so I fitted up the blades for a couple of planes to see I  was doing every thing right.

Phase II:

Then cutting the blocks into 2 pieces.

Turning the forward piede over to form the "V" for the blade

Glueing the sides on to hold the 2 pieces together.

While those are being glued up, I will start detting the pins in the first bunch.

First drill the hole, then cut the Brass rod. Each plane is a tad different width, so I will cut each rod separate.

Next is cutting the plane blade to length and installing in the plane.

That is it for today.

more ''I be impressed''....

What's the brass rod diameter? 3/16"? 1/4"? How much under-size is the hole to retain the pin?

Good choice on the cut-off tool...got one just like it====>GO H-F!
