You are a cool lady! hat Well, we aren't supposed to swear, so I had to come up with something LOL and thanks! Not sure about the "lady" part most days. Besides the Army drills it into us from day 1 "you aren't women, you're soldiers". I can't even wear a pair of heels anymore without getting into a fight with gravity... I tend to lose.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Stick... I learn so much from you. End up lost as hell on some of it, but I still learn.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Oh....started that waving flag project... wait... that's how this conversation started.... Anyway... I'm at the grinder stage for trying to smooth out the ridges from offsetting the wood. The attachment fell off twice, so hubby had to come tighten it....and then took over for about 30 minutes LOL I should be working on it more before it starts raining, but... I'm here with y'all instead. I'm "taking a break" or something like that Edited December 30, 20187 yr by MaDeuce

December 30, 20187 yr Popular Post I’m no sage or expert, but thought I would throw something out here, do you know what a Shopsmith is? You can go to their website and learn about them. The reason I bring it up is they are fairly often available on Craigslist for short money. They are a multi tool in one concept. Where you mention that you were thinking about getting a bandsaw, you can get a bandsaw attachment for the Shopsmith, which if you were looking on Craigslist, it may come with it. In essence the basic Shopsmith is a drillpress, disk sander, over table router, table saw, and lathe-all in one . Then there are additional attachments-band saw, belt sander, strip sander, jointer, scroll saw. Now if you have plenty of space for individual machines (I don’t), or you don’t like the idea of all-in-one machine, or feel that the time changing the SS from one set-up to another, is too much wasted time. It may not be for you. In the Massachusetts area they go for $200-$2000, with probably decent ones available in the $500 range. Now if you look at these and think they may be a serious option for you, the person to talk to is our very own Gene! ( Gene, that beeping sound is the bus I’m driving backing over you sorry) I am too green at WW’ing for anyone to listen to my opinions, but if you look at them you may like them.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post I'll have to look at that. My "shop" is a 10x12'(?) shed. So I certainly don't have a lot of room and I'm fairly certain hubby doesn't want the garage full of sawdust lol Thanks @Artie
December 30, 20187 yr Author Ok, flag 1 of 2 is rough carved. I am now fully convinced that the only shape I'm in is round... this shouldn't be so hard on my body I'll be leaving the second for tomorrow morning.. then off to the shop to get the ends squared off before I do the finder grinding and sanding.
December 30, 20187 yr Popular Post Great start with a great project Ma. I'm already seeing the wave even without the colors. Thanks for taking us along your journey. It's great you're here learning and having fun along with the rest of us. Looking forward to seeing the progression.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Still have to carve the second, then tomorrow I'll take them to the shop. THEN the stripes start happening lol
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post I'll do one subdued (using a torch to darken the red stripes) and done one in color.
December 30, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Thinking this will be my next project (no waves lol) and without the weapons... I'll keep those for myself thank you very much

December 30, 20187 yr Excellent work on the flags. I imagine clean up was a biotch. Or something akin. 10x12 is plenty of room for a Shopsmith. Look around for a "shorty" or get a full sized one and, if needed, shorten it. Easy peasy. Edited December 30, 20187 yr by Gene Howe
December 30, 20187 yr Author Clean up wasn't too bad.... because I did the work in my driveway LOL Its a pretty pine color now
