Thanks John, I suspect pilot error. No rush do it at your convenience .

Rich, it appears your email domain is rejecting our notifications.

The issue may be more local to your pc though, the reason is we have other members who are receiving notifications successfully that share your same email domain.

The simple first step is to go to your "Junk" email folder, and see if we are in there. I would look waaaay back if you have anything old in there. If you have an email from us in your Junk folder, please mark it safe and move to your inbox, or just simply move to your inbox, that action alone will mark it safe.

Lets see if that works first, if not we'll look at other possibilities.

Thanks Rich!

I did have a busy - but productive - Monday.  Can't always put those two together...

Drove up to Macon in the morning and had a machine shop resurface the flywheel.  @Stick486, most all the NAPA's are gone from here.  AFAIK there is not even one in Macon or Warner Robins anymore.  But it was an old established machine & engine builder that I did go to.  Got a free tour of the machine shop and a look at a lot of work in progress.  Most of their work today is diesel truck rebuilds, but I did see one 16 cylinder diesel locomotive block standing on end.  Just a guess, but I would say it was all of 8 feet tall.  I will have to do some research now on it.  Cylinders looked to be about the size of a John Deere 60 or 70 (the original models) - with a bit more stoke.

Home for lunch, then down to Fort Valley to have a crown reglued that had come out over the weekend.  And then into Warner Robins to pick up a clutch kit.  While there I stopped by the tranny shop and had the input shaft mic'd.  I think it is all good, but I will be mic'ing the new pilot bushing before I install.  Going with a bushing this time.  Bushing failure 40 years from now shouldn't be fatal for the transmission.  Who knows - the son might still be driving it 40 years from now - I have been driving it for 47 years myself!  More good news, parts for the transmission had arrived and it was being worked on while I was there.  It may be done today or by tomorrow I expect.  I may have this part of the job complete by the end of the week!

To make this wood related, all this work is taking place in my shop... and preventing me from doing any other projects right now...

FWIW Cal, nearly all the modern era farm equipment used a ball bearing for the pilot except for some of the wet clutch applications which continued with a bronze pilot or needle bearing versus ball but they were oil lubricated too. Personally, I'd go back with the ball bearing as a pilot.

Oh and to keep it wood related, I'd use a hammer with a wood handle and socket or bearing driver or in an emergency, a block of wood to install.;)

now that doesn't sound like a good/better plan...

the bushing needs an oil bath...

and there is a reason why the manufacturer wen w/ the more expensive ball bearing....

Pilot bushings were sintered bronze for a lot of cars and equipment.  They lasted a long time because there is pretty much a no load situation in that application.

I have a 140# Golden Retriever semi-retired service dog. He was 95# when he was working full time, but retired life has made him fat and sassy LOL

I couldn't imagine owning a malamute, WAY too much energy and attitude LOL (and thats saying a lot from me... I have enough of my own attitude)

Thanks of checking that out.  I did find an old email in one of my folder from TPW back in 2014 that I had saved for some reason.  I move that email to my inbox. I don't know if that will help but we will see.

Thanks fellas, I was thinking that it was originally a sintered bronze bushing - but after checking out the Factory Service Manual, which I have about wore out from use - I ordered the ball bearing model.  It should be here today.  Actually the FSM did not specify that it was a bearing, but a rather poor drawing made me think it was such.  And it did refer to it as a bearing rather than a bushing.  I went to the parts manual (on disk) and before finding the answer the disc got hung up and is now stuck in the computer:WonderScratch:

I hope that is not a sign of how my day will be going...

Had to move my drill press to finally install a proper dust collection port.  You know the one I threw up and said hey it works years ago.  Upon getting the cabinet that sits in front out I hear all manner of stuff falling.  Figures.  So behind the cabinet and drill press is all manner of stuff, jigs, blocks of wood, enough sawdust to choke a herd of elephants.  It was like  black hole.

Okay enough is enough.  A screw or something small I could live with.  This black hole needs a plug.

Finished product.  One half is attached to wall, the other to the back of my cabinet.  Yeah small stuff might fall between cracks and such.  But larger items, nah don't think so.  Found a few pencils too, imagine that?
