December 7, 20187 yr Popular Post December 7th a day that will live in infamy. A special day to remember. A day to stop, reflect, self-inspect and support those of the “Greatest Generation” that answered the call. May we never forget that they didn’t hesitate but gave their all to make this the Greatest Nation on this earth. At the shop shop we are busy filling Christmas orders now that we have finished our last show of the season. Cornhole boards are are still high on the list. Two more sets in the assembly area. and two more sets in the finishing room. Six more sets to finish this coming week. I started last night roughing out some blanks for some Walnut hand mirrors. Turned one down close just to check my measurements since it’s been a while since I’ve made these. The back side will get a Maple insert with an initial engraved in the center. That’s what it looks like right now in my shop, what’s on your weekend agenda? Share your projects and pictures. Whatever you you do have fun and be safe.

A special day to remember ...and sadly we just lost the oldest living survivor of that day. I weep for our nation and wonder if we would survive another event like this. The USPS finally delivered the sandpaper I ordered for a new source- now that all the bowls have been turned. Guess I'll have to make another project to test it.
December 7, 20187 yr Popular Post I was only 7 months and 3 days old on 12/7/41. Don't really remember that day. But, my dad did. He enlisted in the Navy a week later. Didn't see him again for 4 years. 1 hour ago, lew said: The USPS finally delivered the sandpaper I ordered for a new source- now that all the bowls have been turned. Gotta refresh my memory about the order of reassembly. I've torn down and reassembled several Holly four barrels and, even rebuilt a couple Ford flat head V8s. (With a mentor). But, back then, my memory was longer than a nanosecond.
December 7, 20187 yr In between Projects for a while, yet....waiting on the SSI paycheck.....May see WHAT I can cobble together...
December 7, 20187 yr Popular Post No wood working until it heats up a BUNCH!!! Shops right at 10* now and just can't get it warm. So for now, we'll keep busy with our Santa and Mrs. Claus visits.

December 7, 20187 yr Popular Post Things came grinding to a halt on my wife's file cabinet...had to stop and do emergency repairs. "We" were Christmas decorating (around my house that means I put the decorations up where she tells me they go ). While putting up her somewhat extensive nutcracker collection, she found a handful that needed various repairs. So in between decorating exercises I need to fix these guys. When I mentioned that a couple of them were so old they needed to be tossed, I was asked if the repair exceeded my abilities.

December 7, 20187 yr Popular Post Working on Christmas gifts, way behind this year. Still have a box to make for a commission not due till the first but will feel better when done. Do not think I could do this for a living but maybe that's is the age speaking as am not as laid back to tolerant as used to be, ok who am I kidding I never was either 😎. Also have a box and cart to make for woodturners club but have till mid January for that. Then got to looking at some turning tools that need handles so started that also yesterday. Life is such fun.

It's really expensive- of course it lasts longer than regular sand paper. I'm going to give the sanding screen from Wood Turners Wonders a try. About half the price of the Abranet but I haven't had a chance to test the life span.

December 8, 20187 yr Popular Post Saturday morning, I’m working on a bookcase for a church here in town. Saturday afternoon Dorothy and I are taking the 5 grandkids shopping for toys and out to supper. This is our annual tradition. My wife and I are impossible to buy for and so are our daughter and son. In lieu of buying for the adults, we adopt a local family for Christmas. Since my daughter and daughter-in-law both teach we get a family that is truly needy. The grandkids really look forward to the day shopping for toys. Probably doesn’t hurt that Nana and Pappy pick up the tab either.
