November 22, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Well the project is moving along nicely. I haven't posted in a while so I will play catch up here. I cleaned all the parts and prepped, applied primer and painted. I had to adjust the box tubing on top so the screw holes will be in a straight line on the tabletop. This involved cutting new angle iron and drilling holes. I cleaned the electric motor and shot a topcoat to make it look nice. I managed to have the motor fall on my foot. Lots of choice words nothing broken. Next step is the wood table top. As you can see my shop is a disaster zone. Cluttered bench, Cluttered mind. What does an empty bench mean?
November 22, 20187 yr Looks like it's coming along nicely. Like your paint scheme. Green and red...ish. Christmas colors. As to your cluttered shop...to paraphrase a sign Phyl hung in the kitchen.."A neat shop is a sign of a sick mind."

Assume the primer is "rattle can??" What's the brand? Maybe it's the lighting, but appears to be an off-white primer. I like the looks of it over grey primer. What is your red shade? It looks close to IH-Farmall red?

Looks even better when you have a lot of polished brass.

The primer is Krylon rust protector light grey and the Burgundy is made by Rustoleum

November 23, 20187 yr Author I started working on the bench top today. I managed to get the wood bolted down to the frame. Now I have to trim up the box tubing on the end opposite the saw frame. I plan on using boiled linseed oil as a finish on the wood to protect it. Between visiting my wife at the care center and taking care of business at the house this project is keeping me busy. I still have not decided what the logo for the saw is going to look like but I still have time. My next project will be a 200+ year old Brown Bess Musket from Kathmandu Nepal I am looking forward to that one.
November 23, 20187 yr Kenny, The saws looking real good! I like your new screen icon, you might want to incorporate it into the machine logo? I felt your pain with the motor falling, I've managed doing that a few times myself.
November 25, 20187 yr Author Hello All, I have been steadily working on this saw while I wait for my wife to come home from the physical rehab center. I did a test assembly today to see how everything fit. As you can see it went together fairly well but there is always room for improvement. I am still working on the finer aspects of woodworking. The table is made from water stained oak with spruce trim. I have a few gaps in the wood here and there but I can live with that. I am going to finish sanding and then apply some BLO to the wood. I need to find a source of locking collars you put on drive shafts. Does anyone know a good source? I can't wait to get her back in service.

Locally Kenny, do you have a Farm & Fleet or Tractor Supply or any other type of farm supply stores? Most carry open stock lock collars w/o buying the matching bearing. Another source would be any Farm Equipment/Implement dealer...e.g. John Deere, Case-IH, New Holland, etc.; Do you have a Motion's Industries or Fastenal franchise location? Both maintain inventories in my area but we are an agricultural community. Edit add: Oh yeah, the saw looks great. That table will be perfect with the BLO finish along with the saw color scheme. November 25, 20187 yr Kenny, The saw is looking real good! Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, and those that Dave mentioned should all have locking shaft collars.

November 26, 20187 yr Author Popular Post I got home from work and applied the BLO to the wood. Gotta love the look of BLO on bare wood. I am hoping to have this operational very shortly. I have an idea that I really need an opinion on. When I turn this beast on I am standing next to a lot of moving metal and this thing has no guards on the blade. I am not a fan of decorating the shop with my body parts so I have an idea for guards. I was thinking if getting some 1" flat stock and making a rectangle that goes across the front of the wheel and attaches behind it. I would look like a single bar going across the front of the wheel. This would prevent the blade from coming all the way off and removing parts from my torso. I have seen other DIY guards that look like doo doo and I do not want to do that. Opinions please.
November 26, 20187 yr Table took the BLO beautifully. Another bar, vertical at 90 to the cross bar, would offer more protection, IMO. A shroud would be even better.
November 28, 20187 yr I like it, I love it, and the table is the topper! When do you plan on putting a blade on it and firing it up? I'd love to see a video clip on that running, just to hear it.

I still need to tweak some adjustments on the saw and since I do not have manual for the saw it is all by trial and error. Here is a picture with a blade and a video of a short test run.
