Plus you reel in the laser line at the touch of a button.  I'm going out on a limb here but I'll bet it well take a lot longer to reel in the string.....unless you tie it to Lassie and have somebody call her (I believe Lassie was a female) for supper.

For internal measurements I use a regular carpenters folding rule with the slide out on one end.

Of course you must add the two measurements together for the final length.

Guess I'm just old fashion ----or too lazy to make a story stick (or both)!

I'm a klutz. Tried the folding rule and slide out thingie. It's too easy for me to bump the slide out thingie, either as I take it out of the cabinet or using it to set the fence or stop block.

I just want the actual physical length. Couldn't care less about the numbers.

Wouldn't help me likely...I'd probably sneeze or something and drop it in the well.

Forgot to mention, the tool has a strap that you can put around your wrist....they must have read your mind.

Set a yard stick on the work bench and measure the length of the stick rule.;)

@DuckSoup, thanks but, no thanks. But, I do appreciate your reply.

Using my story stick I go from the cabinet, box, etc. directly to the saw. No intervening steps involved. AND, NO NUMBERS :excl::lol:

I assumed that's who he meant...he was an early woodworker. Worked primarily with cherry IIRC.;) I wasn't sure about any others named George W.

I've heard he had wooden teeth, also. No word as to whether or not they were cherry.

Actually, his dentures were made with sheep's teeth! Apparently those are the closest to human teeth.
