steven newman Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 Issues with my Craftsman 113. 27350 bandsaw......way to much shaking going on....drive wheel wobbles.....tore the thing down today.... Removed both the belt pulley and the lower wheel.. 2 wheels, only found one key stock....one for the belt pulley was MIA. Large snap ring holding the shaft in place on the belt side.. Metal cap swings down out of the way, once the shaft is out... (nice and cleaned up..) to get the shaft out, I had to remove these two bolts..which went right back in as soon as I could....hate losing parts. Shaft "looked" good when it came out, and the rust removed.. Bearings themselves are fine, it seems to be a problem with the shaft itself.. Mainly on the drive wheel side. Bearing will slide around a bit. Looking like a new shaft will be needed...I did find my snap ring pliers..finally.. Need to skinny the points down a tad, so they fit. Will take the shaft, bearings and all to the TSC Store, and see what they have handy. Bearing No. 3203 RS FAG..... Wondering IF I can find a washer that fits over the snap rings, and can be held in place with those two bolts. Maybe tighten things up a bit? IF I need a bandsaw for the next project..we have back-up.. That little 12" Craftsman 3-wheeler will do for the small stuff....has a 3/8" blade onboard. Would have to dig it out of the hole... And..NO, I am unable to just go out and buy a new/used bandsaw right now....not an option. Will just have to fix what I have. p_toad, HARO50 and Cal 2 1 Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) Do you have pictures of the shaft with the bearing(s) removed Steven? Assume that is just a spacer between the bearings? If the shaft is undercut from the bearing spinning on the shaft, you might be able to "peen" the shaft to "increase" the diameter slightly then use some Loctite to help retain. You also might be able to repair by peening, then "building" up with lab metal. Of course you'll have to file down to resize to fit. If you have any machinist friends, they probably could repair or make you one as well. BTW...you sure your model number is 113. 27350? When I type that in to Sears Parts Direct, it doesn't match up to a bandsaw... I have a book for a 113.24201 which is very similar...assuming the shaft is the same part (69058) Sears Part Direct does show it in stock... I have a Model 113.243311 which is also almost identical except has the aluminum vs cast table. Parts list shows the same shaft number for it too. Smallpatch Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 If you have a machine shop close by they can cut you a key way on a rod real quick.....That bearing does show to be leaning a little on that shaft. A bearing supply stocks bearings in that size range if needed. You also might put some Locktite on those set screws when reassembling and make them real tight.. I think you are kinda lucky for those old three wheel saws are the devil to get the blade to stay on the wheels. steven newman, Cal, Dadio and 1 other 4 Quote
steven newman Posted June 27, 2018 Author Report Posted June 27, 2018 Was very scratched up....finally read the number as 113.24350 Will see what TSC has, tomorrow.... Just a pipe-like spacer between the bearings. Quote
steven newman Posted June 27, 2018 Author Report Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) Did a bit of shopping this morning....until I have the spare $40 or so, and order the new shaft. There IS a machine shop here in town...IF you can catch them open.. TSC was a source for keyway stock.....and not much else in the way of help. Bought a new pair of snap ring pliers, hoping they would fit the holes..nope. Bought a LARGE washer, big enough to sit just outside of the snap ring. Then ground the O.D. down until it matched the O.D. of the bearings. Assemble things back together....even the new keyway piece. Gave thing a test run....no blade. Had the blade wheel too far in, and the pulley as well. Adjusted those.. Motor is now having "issues" again. Hand starts.....keeps popping a breaker....motor is not the kind with oiled bearings. Finally got things to run for quite a while... Re-installed the blade......found out about the wheel being too far in.... Worked on the table's locking bolt, so I could at least tilt the table better. Minimum tension on the blade...start up....motor issues, again...Finally got the saw to run....then it slowed to a stop...motor again. Took the belt off the motor, and let it run about 10 minutes.....may have "blown out" some crud inside....runs a bit better, now. Restarted the saw, tried a simple crosscut.....blade tracks better....cut looked better. Need to work on this a bit more.....until I no longer have to do a hand-start up. Had these issues last year, too. OEM motor.... Will do until I can save up for the new shaft. Just have to "baby" it until then.... Edited June 27, 2018 by steven newman Fred W. Ron Dudelston Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 Steve, blow the motor out with an air hose especially at the not pulley end. Sounds like the commutator is shorting. Grandpadave52, Cal, HARO50 and 1 other 4 Quote

Grandpadave52 Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 (edited) Looks like Amazon also has the shaft plus a slight bit cheaper...https://www.amazon.com/Craftsman-Genuine-Original-Equipment-Manufacturer/dp/B074TVWLGW eReplacement shows NLA on their site; Did a some searches on Flea Bay...none out there at this time, but I know I've seen them in the past. Wish I could help more...just missed buying one ($20) for parts off CL the other day; everything was good except the motor; had a homemade wooden stand vs steel legs; truck was still in the shop 1 hour ago, steven newman said: Bought a new pair of snap ring pliers, hoping they would fit the holes..nope. Smallpatch Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 And take the snap ring with you next time or is it the one you are buying the pliers for to get it off in the first place..If so sometimes you can work it off with a couple of ice picks or similiar things. Both the inside and the outside snap rings are a bitch with out the right tools by can be worked off with a little finesse. Cal and steven newman 2 Quote
steven newman Posted June 27, 2018 Author Report Posted June 27, 2018 Dad used to use a screwdriver....figuring he can always replace a ring... Shaft will be in the mail....a friend is sending one.... Will be taking the pliers back...and seeing about a pair at Autozone....or..even a Sears store...still one open in Piqua, OH, and Lima, OH... Just got the latest catalog from Harbor Freight....14" ,4 speed bandsaw....$369.00 + tax....Ouch. Maybe some day...when there isn't a lot of bills.... HARO50 and Cal 1 1 Quote

Watch CL...see them quite often for $200 or less; They have them on sale (with sale coupon) a few times years at $269 or $279. Delta Clones...IIRC, the riser kits for Grizzly and Delta also interchange. Pretty sure Carter Products has a number of upgrades that will work or interchange. Also see the Craftsman's like we have on CL for $100 and often much less...some think those 12" Craftsman should bring $200-$300 (more than they sold new). I gave $50 about 5 years ago for mine which included the mitre gauge, table extension, Craftsman rip fence, NIB Craftsman circle cutting attachment, 6 or 7 NIB Craftsman 80" blades (various widths), a like new Yankee 41Y (missing the 1/16" of course) and a couple of other items. I've seen them too at Habitat Restores for $75 or less. They show up in yard-sales pretty often around here as well. Craftsman must have made a million of them. Patience, timing and I understand available $$'s at the time. Glad you've got parts on the way to get you up & going. steven newman, HARO50 and Cal 3 Quote

The "big one" in Indy @ Castleton Mall is closing as well as the one closest to me at Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette.
