June 16, 20187 yr Popular Post Looks good John I could use some 10' hi ones when you get time in my shop, let me know when they are ready and I will come over and bring some help to load them while I watch. Herb
June 17, 20187 yr Nicely done John. Gonna' guess you saved them a chunk of change over what a professional cabinet shop would have charged to build and install. Hopefully you got a gold star by your name for the day. Looking forward to seeing the door build & install.
June 17, 20187 yr Author Cliff, Dadio, Gramps, Cal, Ron, thanks all for the kudos! Clean lines, simple project, hard to screw this one up, oh wait a minute, it was all screws anyway! I like these projects sometimes, you get to just twiddle and cut and screw boards together, without much thought of joinery, alignment, preparation, etc etc. Auto pilot and run. Thanks again guys.

You know, the more the guys use the lockers without the doors, the more they like them. Really we don't need the doors, since our main equip room door is locked with a padlock, and it's a solid core very heavy door mounted to a metal jamb unit, it's not break-in proof, but since we've been an office since 1972, we've never experienced a break-in, our yard is secured with guards, our building is block, so our equipment is pretty safe. We store about 1/2 a million dollars worth of small equipment in those lockers between the total stations, levels, and GPS equipment, so far nothing has ever gone missing. I am hoping they decide to forgo the doors actually, that ply makes a mess of things in the ol shop! But, the doors would clean it up really nice, it would look really good for sure with the doors on. Our County Surveyor wants the doors, the guys who actually use the gear, don't.

Would they be individual doors on each compartment, or bottom to top doors on each column? The individual doors would then require some kind of indexing to show what equipment was in each compartment. Also fitting locks on each door, this could turn into a major project. Herb Just six doors Herb, one door for each locker, each locker is one full compartment with adjustable shelves. So yes, bottom to top doors for each column. Indexing would never work anyway, each crew likes to put their gear in the lockers differently, so thank goodness it's one door for each column!
June 17, 20187 yr I can see why the guys prefer no doors. At some point, opening one would get in the way of it's neighbor.

That was one of their concerns Gene. My concern is, doors just mean an extra mechanical item to break down too, our guys are rough on our furniture. The cases that go in and out every day are heavy, and they get banged into the cabinet face frames and shelves daily, thus the reason I glued screwed and tattoo'd those face-frames to the cabinet, the shelf edges are already getting tore up, I knew they wood, so I had already planned on putting a metal bullnose on the shelf edges. Next time I get a lull.
July 24, 20187 yr Author Popular Post Just got the doors on today. The County Surveyor wants doors, do the doors go on, the guys were happy without em, but hey, the boss speaks, it is.
