March 15, 20188 yr Popular Post This is the second cryptex I've finished. I re wrote the border file and I like this look much better. This one is a five ring code as I'm going to use it for the demo at our next meeting of the NorthEast Indiana Turners and Chiselers(NEITC). Anyone care to guess what is the code?? The first one actually works smoother, I didn't dry fit the rings before gluing it up and I should have. Oh well, someone said in another thread, it's how we grow. Steve
March 16, 20188 yr Beautiful Steve. If I were going to demo it and didn't want to forget the code, it would probably be S-T-E-V-E
March 16, 20188 yr Fantastic Steve...with the finish applied these are even more amazing to look at. 1 hour ago, Steve Krumanaker said: Anyone care to guess what is the code?? Well it doesn't appear to be E-I-E-I-O Is it your Debit Card Pin Number by chance? Edited March 16, 20188 yr by Grandpadave52

March 16, 20188 yr Actually, I don't know why I said that. If I wanted to remember it, it would be C-A-L-V-I-N...
March 16, 20188 yr Beautiful work, Steve, I really like the border. NEITC Can you change the codes? Herb

Herb On the ones I'm making the code is pretty set in stone...er....wood. I've seen some advertised online where the code can be changed but I have no idea how to do that. The code is, of course, NEITC. Our club has a bring back raffle every month, now and then a member will throw in something extra, I'll probably do that with this one. Steve

Herb You hacked that pretty easily Herb, you are not a Russian spy are you? Trying to infiltrate the U.S. senior citizens woodworking sites? Looking for dirt, or maybe sawdust, on one of our members? Steve If the brass pegs were movable (?), and each ring had multiple holes for the brass rings, that might allow for code changes? Just thinking aloud, very nice work, and Artie only has 5 letters (just in case you were looking for a new code LOL).
March 16, 20188 yr Forgive me if I'm just plain out of it but is this a type of an Enigma decoder machine. I do remember a guy named Turing might have been the hero of WW11 because of the machine..

Steve Are you able to take them apart once they are assembled and replace the rings with different ones to change the combination? Herb

I've thought about it some, in my mind the easiest way to do it would be make the rings two piece with an outer lettered ring and an inner ring with one slot. The inner ring with the slot could then be re-positioned on any letter to change the code. For that to work one of the border rings would have to be removable and in this design they are glued in place. Steve
