To mount a vise you will have to have some solid wood . MDF will not hold screws but could be bolted to with head countersinked, Still I would prefer wood.

      No Cal, I gave him a range.  He supplied the walnut from his farm so I wasn't concerned with him walking.  Besides, here in Indiana, a man's word is sterling.  If he said he'd pay then he'll pay.
