Great job Joe. Sorry to read of your plight too with Irma. Glad the tools were saved as well as everything else and especially no one hurt.

All done!

door alignment isn't as good as I wanted it.  Dealing with six-foot piano hinges and heavy doors proved an enormous challenge.  Took three people to get the doors hung.

Overall im happy with it.  Came out pretty sharp and the girlfriend loves it!

Very nice.

6" piano hinges would be a chore but, you pulled it off. Good job.

Looks good . If the top gap really gives you a problem you could plane a little off the left door top and no one will notice theinner part of the trim not matching height

That really looks nice Joe,

Cal

Thanks all!

Now for some shop upgrades.   Need better dust collection, so I'm looking for ductwork that isn't ugly white PVC and isn't flexible hosing.   Any thoughts?   I found a couple of places online, but prices are pretty steep.   Big box stores don't seem to carry anything close to what I want either.

How about black DWV?

What is DWV?

look to metal snaplok pipe...

The reason I went for the "ugly" white PVC is that it comes in 6" diam.   I have seen several systems made from the DWV  4' Black corrugated drain pipe, but not wise in my estimation as the congregations will catch sawdust, and hamper airflow. Depending on how large a system you put in, the smaller the pipe the less air flow. I have a 3hp. fan and a 6" main runs, reduced to 4" at some machines.

There is a lot of information on dust collection on the web. Do a search for Bill Penz, he is the authority in my book.

Wasn't thinking of corrugated DWV. Didn't even know there was such an animal. Sure wouldn't use it for DC and, don't think I'd want to use it for sewage, either.

Metal would be better but harder to work with...at least for me...and more expensive, I'd think.

metal wholesale is cheaper...

use saddles for branch lines... less by half over PVC fittings..

easy to work...

no static issues...

less waste...

easier to reuse/remodel..

run/install your trunk line...

add saddles as required..

use your jigsaw to cut holes for saddles...

buy lengths of pipe to fit... just plug together and foil tape joints..

The confusion I'm having with anything not prefabricated is the blast gates.   How do you seal PVC or metal pipe around the blast gate entrance or exit?   Caulk seems somewhat, permanent.   Maybe I'm just having commitment issues....

Metal pipe sections can be taped, PVC could be glued.  Both seem easy enough to me.  But when there's a connection to a pipe or flex hose attachment, that's where I don't see where anything would work.   I'm used to nothing but flexible tubing and hose clamps, so just twist the knob and everything tightens up.   Sort of.

That Bill Penz is like an encyclopedia of dust collection.   Really great info, thanks for sharing.  I just read some of his stuff and now I'm both scared of my current shop and contacting my bank for financing arrangements to upgrade it ASAP, ha!

Back to reading more Bill Penz...this could take a while :)

Stick can tell you how to work around all your connection concerns. I think he's done it all, a few times.

they fit..

metal to flex that is..

and you have crimpers to adjust fit..
