September 3, 20178 yr Popular Post I'm building it now. Girlfriend says it'll work fine for her. We discussed the leaf depth. She does only hobby projects, so she sees no problem with the dimensions. I agree this probably isn't the best design for a serious seamstress making dresses and such. I didn't like the pine look either, so I opted for Cherry with Cherry veneer plywood. Cabinet is done. Working on doors now.

The current issue of Woodsmith has a nice tool cabinet too. May use both ideas to come up with what I think I need. I've never actually built ANYTHING using a plan, I tend to use several ideas, make a rough sketch with some dimensions, and go from there. Like the Idea of a few drawers! John

Great job on the cabinet and I like your choice of the cherry and the subtle contrast on the staining. I hope you share pics again when the doors are completed and installed. And. while the cabinet looks awesome, that plate of donuts looks even better yet. Save those chocolate covered French Crullers would ya' please. You wouldn't be located in Indiana would you cause those donuts look a whole lot like Mary Lou's offerings?

September 27, 20178 yr Popular Post Cabinet doors are finally done. Unfortunately Irma decided to visit and flood my shop 7" wall to wall. Took a while to get cleaned up and back into production. Overall the doors came out out the way I wanted. I didn't like how the plans added molding to the inside edges of the door face. That does nothing to cover the dado joints used to hold the door frame itself together. So I went off-script, bought a fancy molding router bit and made my own molding that overlaps the cabinet frame edges. Nice decorative edge and it covers the unsightly joinery that results from a $500 table saw. Turned out pretty good I thought. Here are before/after photos of the cabinet doors. Once the polyurethane coats are applied, I get to figure out how to install six-foot piano hinges.....

September 27, 20178 yr Looks great. Glad you recovered from the flood. Like Lew, hope no tools were severely affected. As to the hinges, maybe you could use three ea. One footers? Check out McMaster-Carr for half swaged hinges. And, here's a video I found useful. My jig is for 12" hinges and works well. Might be a bit unwieldy for a 6' hinge, though.
September 27, 20178 yr Popular Post Thanks for all the feedback! I planned ahead and moved all the important wood and tools to tables and shelves. Some scrap wood got tossed, no biggie. Only tool I lost was the mini-fridge. I wanted a new one anyways The cabinet plans called for specific 6' piano hinges so I've already bought those. Will post again once I have the doors attached.
