It's hard to say how much the new owner is going to continue along the same lines. ''The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers,'' Wm. Al B Posted July 20, 2017 Report Posted July 20, 2017 I could be wrong, but I believe Gass only sold the manufacturing business for the SawStop. He still owns the patent rights, and thus, still controls the marketing. HARO50 and kmealy 2 Quote

During that time I was with one of the "baby bells," Cincinnati Bell that itself has ventured into cell phone (failed), internet (doing ok), fioptics, IPTV, electrical provider, and call center services (spun off Convergys) Quote

Popular Post kmealy Posted July 21, 2017 Author Popular Post Report Posted July 21, 2017 There is a story about a lawyer who'd visit a farm B&B every summer. One year he showed up and the farmer's teenage daughter had a baby. Knowing what happened the prior summer, he asked if it was his. "Yes," the farmer said. "Well you should have contacted me. I'm an honorable man and would have married your daughter to help keep her honor," said the lawyer. "Well, we talked about it and decided we'd rather have a bastard child in the family than a lawyer," answered the farmer. Fred W. Hargis Jr, p_toad, HARO50 and 6 others 8 1 Quote
Popular Post PostalTom Posted July 23, 2017 Popular Post Report Posted July 23, 2017 I posted my comments. If anyone is interested, this is what I wrote. Currently, there is only one manufacturer making table saws with flesh sensing technology. Passage of this rule would unreasonably create a monopoly on the manufacture and sale of new table saws. This rule is also unreasonable when compared to helmet requirements for motorcycle riders. There is no federal rule requiring helmets for motorcycle riders, although this is life saving, not finger saving technology. This decision is left up to the state and individual rider. This should be the same for table saws. I would support a requirement for table saw manufacturers to offer flesh sensing technology as a separate model, or an after-market retro-fit package, but do not restrict them to only offering saws with this technology. John Morris Posted July 24, 2017 Report Posted July 24, 2017 All of this goes against my fabric, being a choice type of person I am, and yes, I don't like seat belt or helmet laws either, and I don't like the guberment telling you that you can't smoke in your own car either if kids are present, I'm not saying any of those items I just mentioned aren't wise to practice in the first place, but it should be left up to the individual. I remember when the helmet law was put in place in our state, guess what industry suffered, organ donor industry! Yep, bikers were one of the largest groups of motorists to donate organs before the helmet law came into affect. Hey, if you want to ride with out a helmet, I respect that, if you want to buckle up in your OWN car, and your kids, great, if not, it's on you. If I rode motorcycles anymore and did not have a family to support, and if I could, it'd be without a helmet. My choice, bad or good, it's all mine. HARO50, Gene Howe, Al B and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post kmealy Posted July 25, 2017 Author Popular Post Report Posted July 25, 2017 Tomorrow, July 26 is the last day to comment. Found an interesting note from PTI (Power Tool Institute): “The company behind the campaign to force consumers to pay more for table saws is SawStop, previously owned by patent attorney Stephen Gass, and recently acquired by TTS Tooltechnic Systems. Mr. Gass holds an extensive network of over 100 U.S. patents (with more than 140 patent applications filed). Mr. Gass has represented that SawStop's patent web would be infringed by any alternative flesh detection technology, including technologies developed by PTI member companies. Since Mr. Gass introduced his SawStop technology in 2000, no manufacturer has been successful in licensing it. Therefore, should CPSC adopt a mandatory rule, the agency could be creating a monopolistic advantage in the marketplace, generating millions of dollars for Mr. Gass, while leaving consumers out to dry.” Dadio, Cal, HARO50 and 2 others 5 Quote
Al B Posted July 25, 2017 Report Posted July 25, 2017 Stephen Gass has continually fought to prevent other manufacturers from selling their better designed safety technology. Though he presents himself as one interested in the safety of those who use tablesaws, he has continuously demonstrated that his primary interest is to increase his wealth, without regard to safety. He has continually fought to have his technology mandated. Stick486, MT Stringer and kmealy 3 Quote
