John Morris Posted May 10, 2017 Author Report Posted May 10, 2017 8 hours ago, AzraelRedeemed said: Editorial rights should always be available to the composer of comments, post replies, or original postings in a specific thread. It's a great ideal to have Jesse, and it makes sense right? But, and a big ugly but, all content that is posted in this forum, and any forum for that matter, becomes the property of the forum community as a whole unless it is copy written already and the poster or contributor has intellectual property rights already. It has to be that way. Just imagine, if you, the contributor maintained publishing rights to all the content you posted here, technically you could ask that all your content be removed, and we'd have to oblige. Now magnify that into an all out mutiny, 20 or 30 contributors plan a walk out, and state that while they are walking out, they want all their content to go with them, well then, we just have a forum that dies on the vine immediately. So for that reason, what you post here, becomes property of The Patriot Woodworker Woodworking Community. Per our Forum Guidelines we state: Quote We know that people will have to leave our community (of their own free will or otherwise) from time to time and to that end, we do not delete accounts, posts, or other content posted on our community. All content is granted to us with perpetual electronic publishing rights because any content posted on this community becomes a part of the community, even if you no longer are. You may request an item to be removed at any time, but we will decide when and if to remove content from our community. If you wish to no longer be identified with our community, we will be glad to close your account and alter your profile information to remove all identifying characteristics. After account closure, you will no longer be able to participate in this community and this action is not reversible. I hate tough language in rules and guidelines, fortunately we have never had an issue like the possibility lays out above in he guidelines, but it's there to protect us, our community, and the security of our future as a woodworking community. @Fred W. Hargis Jr recommended 24 hours, that could be a possibility to leave editing time open. HARO50 1 Quote
HARO50 Posted May 10, 2017 Report Posted May 10, 2017 The way I see it, the edit feature is for that time when I post something, then think "Darn, I forgot ......." If that flash of brilliance takes longer than three hours to register, all I have to do is "Quote" myself, then add whatever I forgot. 24 hours should certainly please even the most forgetful among us, but as far as I'm concerned, the current settings are fine. Just my $0.05's worth. (Since Canada no longer has pennies.) John Gene Howe 1 Quote

HARO50 Posted May 10, 2017 Report Posted May 10, 2017 My thought, precisely, Gene! The only other forum I frequent (not wood related) has a one-hour limit for edits. It has never been a problem. John Quote

HandyDan Posted May 10, 2017 Report Posted May 10, 2017 A lot of my posts in the Turning Forum are not only what I did but also how I did it. If down the road I find a better way of doing said operation I would like to go back and change it. I can't put a time line on that. I will live with what is decided. HARO50 1 Quote

Why not just add to your thread with: "I found a better/easier/whatever way....." and go on from there? That way the original content isn't lost, and members can compare the two processes and decide for themselves which one suits THEM! John Grandpadave52 1 Quote

ON PREMIUM 7, AT TOP LEFT HAND CORNER, THERE IS COUPLE SMALL ARROWS, I CLICK ONE GOING TO LEFT, CARRIES BAK TO WHERE I WUZ. I think I have found the arrows you are talking about. They are at the bottom of my page, and if I click on the left one it takes me to long list of topics. I didn't know about this feature before. That is cool, thanks for the tip. Herb Quote
honesttjohn Posted May 25, 2017 Report Posted May 25, 2017 I would like to see the posts numbered. Like 10 of 12, 11 of 12, 12 of 12. And to be able to jump from the beginning to first unread. Don't know how much trouble that is to set up. Cal and John Morris 2 Quote

The one thing I don't know if you can do, is to have the current topics tag along side the page we are viewing so we can go to the next topic we want to view without going back to the home page every time. Otherwise you guys are doing a superb job managing the forum. Just saying, Herb Herb I did look into this, and I tested a block next to the current topic view. I can do it, but, the issue is, the block would squeeze the existing topics together too tight, and the existing text and image formatting of all the topics that have been posted, will be misaligned. I am still reviewing this suggestion and seeing what can be done, I like this suggestion. Dadio 1 Quote
