Today is the start of the show season and we have our first outdoor show tonight. Should be nice, it is made 50's today and low is mid 30's. I'll take the patio heater and it will be nice and warm around my booth.

This week has been finishing up some inventory and I got seven edge grain cutting boards finished and I made 30 6"x6" cheese boards. We tie a vintage or antique spreading knife to each one. So today I got the trailer loaded and everything is ready. I will setup around 4:00 and the show runs from 5:00 to 8:00 in downtown. They close down about three block and vendors setup on the sidewalk.

This weekend will be working on other projects in the shop. I have 18 oak shadow boxes to build and ship to WI. They will be ready in about two weeks, pictures to come. The nice part is I don't have to stain them, they are going to do that. I'm hoping to pick up a load of cherry lumber tomorrow, buy it depends on getting some lumber my son got off the trailer in time to go after it. I guess this weekend will be lumber moving for us.

So what is on your agenda this weekend. All of us here at TPW and interested in your projects and plans for the weekend. Share your pictures and projects with us.

I'm off to get ready and put on my warm clothes. See you all later this weekend....

Remember have fun in your shop and work safe.

Nice looking cheese boards.  I have been turning the last batch of ornaments this week.  Figures I came avross some one inch glass bulbs and thought they would look nice inside the ornaments.  I figured I could wrap the bulbs in some foam rubber and glue them inside the blanks since they were too big to go through the windows.  Worked out handily.  The turning is done so applying the finish is on the agenda for the weekend.  Not what I consider the fun part.

John, you are a machine on those cutting boards, that's really impressive. Dan, does that mean you're nearly done with your Christmas turnings? That's crazy amazing! I am doing the demo for our woodturning club Sunday so I've been preparing for that most of the week. I think I'm ready so today I spent some time working on a steady rest for my lathe in hopes of doing some tall forms soon. I will probably post something about the steady in the turning forum as well.

Steve

Yes Steve, I will be done with the ornaments soon but I still have a bunch more Christmas items to do throughout the year.  These ornaments took a lot of time since they were turned twice.  The rest will be easy compared to these.

Bad case of Randy-itis today....finally got around to installing a new blade on the bandsaw.....just had to test drive it, of course.   Still not the best, but until I can scrape enough together for a Rockler trip...will have to do.    Resaw  on the LAST of the  4 x 4s.......trying to get 1/2" thick slabs.....that I can plane smooth to 3/8", or so.     Thinking about doing a "How To" about box joint/finger joint with hand tools only.     Been reading way too many complaints from the tablesaw jig crowd over on LJs......fretting over a 0.0145"  differences.....

I have finished building the two oak bookcases and they'll be delivered Monday.  Right now I'm in the middle of a HUGE job for a local school district and I'm designing shelving units for tubs that they have purchased.  Luckily, I've been able to design two module units (a 10 tub unit and an 8 tub unit) that I can build in mass and accommodate most of the teacher's needs.  As of right now, I will have to build about 24 module units, 2 rolling carts and 2 vertical book cases.  I got lucky because the teachers wanted different colors and the school superintendent told me to spray them with shellac sealer and let the teachers paint them.  Woo hoo because that would have added mucho time to the project. The units have to be finished by September 1st or so and I was pleased to find out that I can invoice several invoices so I don't have to wait until the whole project is completed to get paid.  I still have 3 teachers to talk to yet.

In the meantime, I have a small shadow box to make and a father - son project of an oak side table with my son.  So much for retirement.

By the way, for those who remember my post of a few weeks ago when the doctor put me on a low fat - low carb diet, I'm six weeks into the process, have lost 20 pounds and 2 inches around my waist.  I'm doing 5K a day on the treadmill, also..

Ron,

Sounds like your spring/summer will be busy with the tub units.

Great job on the exercise and weight loss!

Worked on changing my lathe work station to add a ceiling drop shelf for power sanders and maybe some more shelves above that later. Finished sanding the second winged elm bowl from a small log and hope to start applying finish tomorrow . Spent a good part of the morning boxing some books the wife wanted hauled away and took that along with a old yard fountain and  burn pit to the dump. Now for the unbelievable part....a lady when I got there wanted the burn pit and wanted me to haul that and several large pots she had just scored to her home. Only a couple miles away and since my son helped load the pots ......away we went.

That was good of you, Gerald.

My wife passed on to me her head cold. It's nasty. Glad we picked up Costco sized quantities of tissues last time we were there.

I feel so lousy, I'll probably just get some jewellery box drawers lined and call it a day.

But at least, unlike Kelly, I'm mobile. I feel for ya, guy.

Performed the most difficult job of my life yesterday conducting Mom's funeral and graveside services;:( a few days over 1 year when I did the same for my mother-in-law...

Today has been a let down, catch-up and finish-up day from the past week's business...should not have watched Butler vs Seton Hall basketball game...brought Butler bad luck

Tomorrow after church, a few errands, then work on my truck...engine developed miss last Sunday on way home from church...Scan shows #7 cyl. OPC has failed...

Had to miss our local Woodworking Club Seminar today...We hosted Marc Adams  for the day...would have been a great opportunity...

I am thinking of you Dave.

Dave, my heart goes out to you.

Road trip to meet a fellow from Saw Mill Creek Neanderthal Haven......and buy a saw from.    rather than ship the saw, we met about halfway.....58bb4a9f1a02c_DisstonPorter.JPG.393695a0da1bb7bab0cc793a210ea0ea.JPG

$20 for a Disston/HK Porter backsaw.   4" by 24" saw.   Fully readable etch and stamp.   Will need to sharpen all them 11ppi teeth, somehow...someday.   Saw may be older than the mitre box,  as HK Porter bought out Disston about..1957, or so.   Imagine that, I buy two tools that are YOUNGER than I am.....

Have to haul this heavy thing down to the shop......might give it a test drive, since it now has a "proper" saw.

Need to find a sharpening service near by, that still does hand saws.....I might have a couple for them to do, as these fine teeth are a bit too hard to see.   Not too bad a day, though.

Some days, a fellow just can't seem to catch a break....getting to the point I refuse to go to Funeral Homes....something about them I am beginning to dislike......buried way too many friends and relatives over the last few years.....sorry for your loss..

Dave what kind of truck and what motor???

Dave what kind of truck and what motor???

Patch, '04 Ford F-150 4x4...5.4L..~129900 mile...CEL codes all indicate...failed coil #7 cylinder...consistent with mileage range on these engines; spark plugs (you know those 2 piece marvels that break off in the head; I was lucky only 7/8 broke:angry:) were all changed about 115k when I had all the variable camshaft timing garbage changed, gears, chains idlers, cylinders etc. to tune of $2500+

Dave I started an answer to your problem but it disappeared. I had the same problem with a 5.4 Ford pickup. It started missing about noon on a Sat.Thought I could get there so they could put the meter on the motor before they closed a noon and tell me which cylinder was the problem... They closed at noon  but the manager being a nice guy and the only guy left there that day said well since you come all the way here I'll go ahead and hook it up and at least tell you which cylinder . He could only tell me the cylinder but thats as close  as he could get, its either a plug or a wire or you dropped a valve..  No charge since I'm the only guy here and good luck. But I would go buy a set of plugs and change them all. He did mention a set of wires also but I never had any trouble with wires so I didn't buy them... I changed the p;ugs which it took two days for all 8 plugs. a 5.4 engine has the plugs set down in the heads about 5 or 6 inches and will need special tools, like the exact length of a 3/8 extension , a flex head ratchet and some more goodies. No problem I used to sell Mac Tools and have all that kind of stuff. Anyway after all that work and not even a plug but the wire was the cause of the miss. The wires has a booster built in to them and they do give trouble.. Sometimes the heater hose will leak and will fill the spark plug hole and short the plug out on # 8 cylinder.

The last set of plugs I changed was on a chevy V8 and it took less than an hour. When the Ford manager said it pays the mechanic 8 hours of labor. Yikes, I could not believe it..  After changing the plugs, that is not enough money for the mechanic...

If you do it you will save a bunch but if you are a large guy, don't even try. I weigh 160 and had lots of trouble laying up on the motor for long periods of time...I use a sleeping bag air mattress and It helped me bones a little.
