I didn't know what this thing was until i looked it up... so what is it???

I've replaced more than one of those! An iron weight bolts to the center hole. Ditto on the car siding. John Edited January 16, 20179 yr by HARO50
January 16, 20179 yr yup...you got it...lower valve flapper. upper piece is the round seal like on a bike pump or grease gun. Now, where did i put that box of split leather stem seals???
January 17, 20179 yr Had to chuckle to myself last night. Was watching a episode of Tree House Masters with the kids and they were using Car Decking, 1 1/2" thick tongue and groove SPF.
January 17, 20179 yr Never head of car siding, but know what car decking is. I think real car decking is Oak, but they seem to call any 2X6 T&G car decking. Herb Edited January 17, 20179 yr by Dadio
January 17, 20179 yr Popular Post That water pump really brings me back. In my very early years I remember the black cast sink with the water pump in the kitchen. My mom kept a quart milk bottle full of water on the sink in case she had to prime the pump to get it working.
January 17, 20179 yr Popular Post Yeah Al, doesn't seem that long ago. We had one on the well too. We had a 2100 gal water tank mounted above the well and we pumped water from the well into it. My brother and I would take turns pumping for hours and would climb the ladder and look, didn't look like we were making any progress, what a fruitless job.. Our dad hooked up an electric pump as soon as we got electricity. Herb

January 17, 20179 yr Well its kind of like when you go to McDonald's. The kids in the back aren't trained chefs. Why not it's a restaurant isn't it? Yeah but they only pay minimum wage or maybe a little more. These places aren't staffed with the trained professionals that the smaller hometown stores used to have. Yeah they hire young kids in some cases but the kid has to start out some where. At least he's at work and not sitting in front of a video game smoking pot and wondering why life is so unfair. Working in the big box stores cant be easy because they have materials for just about every facet of construction and what you call by one name someone else calls it another. Generally I've been better off hunting things down on my own and only seeking help when I have no luck. I have had the same thing happen with older "wiser" associates as well.
