Happy Armed Forces Day! Today (and everyday) we honor our men and women in uniform. "President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense" -U.S. DOD Allen Worsham Corona, CA allenworsham@earthlink.net 'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own mi…

There's a news story about a marine who "made a wrong turn" in SoCal and ended up in mexico with his three guns and got arrested. Are there roads with no border crossings where you can possibly make an innocent wrong turn and innocently end up across the mexican border into mexico? http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/SD-Andrew-Tahmooressi-US-Marine-from-Weston-Being-Detained-in-Mexico-Prison-on-Weapons-Charge-257728191.html Is this possible?

Courtney and Bryan are dear friends of mine. Â I've been living with them for the past year, and it's hard to describe what her life is like. Â Until the VA figures this out, she will struggle. Â Help her make this happen, if you can: http://www.gofundme.com/7yk9q8 And maybe some of you will consider helping us with the larger problem. Â Until RSD or CRPS gets recognition from the VA, Courtney and other disabled veterans will suffer. Thanks, Mike I don't know why they keep calling me a hippy carpenter...

Fisher House e-Patriot Newsletter  Connect With Us          Sneak Peek at next month's Patriot magazine  Military families are accustomed to hardship and change. They deal with situations that less than one percent of this nation has to due to their service to our country. One such family is the Young family: Perry, Samantha and their little girl, KinLee.  "Perry got injured in Afghanistan and they originally sent him to Landstuhl, Germany, so I stayed at the Fisher House there," Sam explained. "That was the …

My brother (a fellow Air Force guy) sent this to me today.  I HAVE to share it with y'all. Arlington Fly-over  The video is about the Arlington National Cemetery burial of two Vietnam pilots whose bodies were recovered in the last two years. Because of budget cuts and the costs of lavish vacations for the Obamas, the current Administration declined a fly-over during the funeral.   Seeing as how the government can't honor those who died serving America with a fly-over, civilian pilots then filled the gap. See it here:  Arlington Fly-Over Fred aka Pop's Shop www.pops-shop.com 'Soooooo many patterns - sooooo little time' Scroll Saw Forum Host 'Stop comp…

Farwest Forest Products just informed us they shipped off a stack of lumber to Mark Wilson's Shop!!! They informed us a little while back they were going to do this, and they took care of business!!!! I have been informed by Jenn of Farwest that they are shipping off a nice custom pack of lumber hardwoods and a variety. Farwest is quickly becoming the premier location to purchase hardwoods and western softwoods from their own mill, and they are also the west coasts premier location to purchase the Wood-Mizer and Timbery Sawmills. They also provide service and support for those mills. We are completely proud of Farwest Forest Products and their commitment they have s…

See complete story at Bill 'Wild Bill' Guarnere, of 'Band of Brothers' fame, dies at 90 Personally, I feel like I need to travel and start meeting these men and women, before they are all gone, I would love to take a video or voice recorder and start talking to these folks before they are no more, a big part of our history is disappearing daily. I knew the time would come, but it just always seemed so far off. Our daughter's veterans support club will be visiting these folks in our local senior homes and reading books to them, and taking walks, I may have to tag along and get to know them as well. Our last American WWI veteran Frank Buckles passed on 3 years ago, we…

Well we had a wonderful time as usual. The event was moved indoors because of the high winds and the rain. Typically the ground breakings are held on site for the troops new home, they set up tents and chairs and more, but this one had to be moved to a hotel nearby at the last minute due to the winds mainly, the rain was not that big of an issue until you mixed the high winds into it. At the last minute Homes For Our Troops had to place a call to Embassy Suites Hotel that was about 20 minutes from the building site. They asked Embassy Suites if we could have a room to hold the ceremony, and Embassy Suites donated a room with snacks and refreshments, and they accommoda…
