Featured Replies

Many times the job at home, can be more stressful then the mission our troops undertake, military spouses under stand this more then anyone.

Join us in supporting the military spouses around our nation who know all too well, the sleepless nights, and the unwelcome phone calls. Today is Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

To all the spouses of our military, we support you, you are in our thoughts, and you are in our prayers.

I will extend a Thank You to the spouses, but...

Spouses make the choice to be there and some do not.  Some spouses don't hesitate to take advantage of the situation during deployments, some divorce when they cannot handle the separation and some blame the service member for their dedication to country.

Don't get me wrong, because I know that there are plenty that do a great job as a military spouse, but...

Let's look at the children:  They don't get a choice,  You can't tell me that a military spouse suffers more than a military child.  My wife understood that I was in Afghanistan and wouldn't be there for her birthday.  In fact, she wouldn't mind skipping it every other year, regardless if I was in another country, but tell a child that his/her father will miss their birthday or tell them that they have to wait to ride a bike until their father comes home, or don't go to your senior prom because your Mother isn't 'in town'...

A simple 'Thanks' from me, because I'm reserving more appreciation for those kids.

I believe the military is tougher on the wives than the troops.  In 1972, my wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant when I was deployed TDY to Southeast Asia and gave birth while I was there.  When we tried to get a short deferment until after the baby was born we were told, "If the Air Force wanted you to have a wife we would have issued you one."  I understood but my wife didn't.

Thanks to all the military wives.

Rob, thank you to you, and your family for your sacrifices. And thank you for your service.

I would agree, but I think we can reserve one day for the spouses who are good spouses, and the ones who stand by their spouse in service, we are not talking about the spouses who are bad spouses, or the ones taking advantage of the situation. When we talk about Spouse Appreciation day, I conjure up images of the military spouse who is righteous and standing by her/his military member. Let's reserve this day for those spouses, for there are many, I would wager, most. They pay a steep price, and it appears that you already know that sir, you served, and your family experienced the hardships. Thank you once again, I can not imagine what you and yours went through while you were in Afghanistan, thank God!

As for the children, well we have an entire month (appropriately so) dedicated to the children of military members, it was last month, for the entire month of April. I hope all our members will join us next year as we celebrate April 2015, Month of the Military Child!

We have one year to plan something special for military kids, perhaps we can all make wooden toys, and donate them to a distribution source to be handed out to the kids of military members. Or perhaps we could hold a fundraiser and donate funds to a great foundation such as the SEAL KIDS run by the Navy Seals Foundation.

Rob, thank you again for your service, I would like to look you up next year and perhaps you'll help us organize a wonderful event to benefit our military children, especially those who have lost their mom or dad in service to our nation. We can always use the help Rob, and you being a father who has experienced being away from your kids during deployment, I cannot think of a better partner in organizing such an event here on TPW!

Thank you Rob

Many good points..... thanks for thinking about how to help.  I love the idea.  I had a group of woodturners from OH that gave me nearly 200 pens to share with the soldiers in my unit.  They LOVED them.

I'm sure we can have a similar impact on some children.
