My closet restoration has a slight delay of a few days before I can demo the old closet. I spent some time creating the MFT table but today I built two plant trellis for the front porch. I made them out of scrap leftovers of maple and sapelle. I went to Lowe’s and HD to just buy them but the stuff they were selling was pretty much garbage. It’s all screwed and glued with Type 3 so hopefully it will hold up for at least a few years. Paul

Another one of the projects I got to a point and wasn't sure I wanted to use all my Sapele on. Stopped and think Im gonna use it to get rid of it. The base has been an issue. I borrowed a sample chair from a relative but took it back before I got the holes, etc on the base pattern. After a couple days of refiguring, adjusting and rebuilding I think I've got it. The bases are treated for ground contact.

The linen closet and the bathroom projects have both stalled over supplies and I had a request for some instruction on turning from two people so time for some turning. We will start with some spindle turning ( they will be making handles for their new lathe chisels) and then a segmented bowl. I’m making the bowl blank in advance. I will talk them through the process of making the blank. A big part of the class is learning the sharpening process. Paul

I was recently lucky enough to find a 2000 BMW Z3. The car was owned by a close friend and has very low miles and pretty close to perfect. The one issue I have with the car is the center console which is severely lacking. Really no cup holder. There is one but it’s in the center console behind the seats so you have to be a contortionist to use it. That also means no place to put your phone. I saw on Amazon someone is making a caddy for the passenger seat which is perfect as I will be riding alone in this car most of the time. I decided to make one out of wood and see if it will work. I think I will make a small storage box for it also. Except for that it’s complete. Paul

Hi everyone This is Paolo, from the www.chatometry.com team. I just wanted to share something about what we've been doing in the last years. Basically, we identified a reliable method to measure wood chatoyance, which is the way many wood species shift their color depending on the lighting direction. This piece of Sapele is a common example (sanded to 1500-grit with no finish): Now the useful info: we put together a summary table based on thousands of samples, showing the typical chatoyance value of many wood species - here: https://www.chatometry.com/woods/ Each wood can be clicked to reach its specific page, which shows some example of chatoyance on that wood. I hope these data can actually help some of you Paolo

I have a few shows this summer and I decided to add a few new items. Although I have made these boxes before, I decided to make a couple of jewelry boxes out of these. One is sapele and maple and the other is ambrosia maple and sapele. The dark bodied sapele box does have an upper tray but is not shown. The inside and trays are flocked. For some reason the lighting made it look like the flocking is thin but it really isn't. Now to establish a price.

The face frame and raised panel door are to be made of either African mahogany or Sapele. What's the difference between the two. Is one or the other easier to work with? More stable ect? I'll be doing my own stock prep.
