From the album: John Morris's Hand Tools
I have been blessed with a bounty of hand tools and wood these past few weeks, it's a long story, after returning from my latest trip, and after sorting through the tools, I found this infill plane among many other gems. It's a 1" Infill shoulder plane. At this time I cannot see any markings, the hand plane is ready to use now, the edge is excellent and the body is square and solid. I love this plane, and I'll use it. 7.5" long by 3" tall, heavy with a square sole to side for accurate registration. Can't wait to use it! -
Well, went and dug out a few other toys this morning. A "better" dovetail saw, for one the one on the right is a Sheffield "Crown" Gents saw. Seemed to cut a might bit better. Should, I don't think it has been used til now. Dug out a narrow mortise chisel, too. Plan was just to saw down to a line, then chop out the waste. Each set of tails seemed to look better than the last set, so there was some progress, at least. Tried the fit out by putting the box together Not too bad? Next, scrounged a plywood bottom for the box. Had some good 3/8 cabinet stuff, but wasn't the right size. Had to use some old 1/2" stuff. Decided to add a rebate around the edges, so a Wards #78 plane was dragged out and set up. Plywood isn't exactly a wood of choice for this, but I think it will do. Didn't even add any glue to this thing, just knocked it together and nailed the bottom on. Figured I would just keep the box down in the shop, as a catch-all for tools on the move Like a set of chisels. I can even set other trays on top, if needed Like my router bit tray. I even found a place to stow all them brace & bit sets Four of them on this side, and the other two are on the far side. Was going to hang them from the overhead joists, but thought it safer for my head to keep them down low. Just taking things easy, an hour here and there at a time. Trying to place things back in their places in the tool chests. Or, somewhere easy to find them....

Had this been a real expensive plane, you would have heard about it. just not from me. Needed to make a 1/2" wide rebate for the screen to set it. Router bit only goes to 3/8" wide, maybe. Got to looking around, found an older plane I made. Set the fence to 1/2" wide. clamped a test piece to the bench first. A small hammer to make a few adjustments. Then, I clamped the top rail for the screen door to the benchtop, and gave it a whirl After a few trips along the edge. Helps to go with the grain. A few more trips along the edge And one edge is done. It will hold the screen frame just fine. One problem with that Traditional Chinese Skewed rebate plane. No depth stop. Got out the wards #78 to check how deep the rebate went. It was a bit high in a couple spots, 78 leveled them out. Now I just have to make three more rebates But, not too bad for a homemade plane? Wasn't even any sign of a chatter, just a lot of curlies flying out the side of the plane..
